Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: Elsa | Frozen
(Anonymous) 2014-08-18 05:55 am (UTC)(link)My advice: You don't want to go too far with side materials and deleted scenes, because you obviously don't want to incorporate too much that has to do with the original intent to make her the antagonist. That said, there are plenty of side materials that address her final portrayal and mesh with it... like things removed from the later cuts of the movie for dramatic effect (the pig scene, the dress scene). Pay attention to those and to A Sister More Like Me to round her out. There will also be some novels coming out next year, if you're still playing her then. I think it helps to assume that the "growing up" montage depicts the most emotionally difficult moments, not the everyday stuff; also, in those segments, the filmmakers are explicitly trying to parallel and contrast what the sisters are going through, and how only Elsa understands the whole story.
Elsa is not Rapunzel by any stretch of the imagination: she's one of the more outwardly poised and mature Disney heroines. She lacks experience, but she doesn't lack knowledge, and she's seen as practical, even-tempered, firm, and well-behaved by the people around her... only her parents knew the whole story. One of the smartest statements I've read about her is that she has a history of substituting self-discipline for self-esteem.
That said, even if you take a late canon point, she's not going to change in a heartbeat, and being dragged off to some jamjar should probably undermine her fledgling confidence a lot.
One thing you'll run up against is what she should or shouldn't know. Try to think that through ahead of time, because it absolutely will come up in games when she meets characters who are real historical figures or who seem like they could be. It's easy to say that she shouldn't know who Luke Skywalker is, but it's harder when you're trying to decide how she should respond to Merida or Loki.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-18 06:09 am (UTC)(link)Also, I wanted to explain a little more on the last point. Merida would raise questions because you might find yourself needing to decide how much Elsa knows about both Scotland and anything medieval. Loki and Thor would raise questions because you'll need to decide how much she knows about Norse mythology (given that Arendelle is both explicitly Christian and basically Norway: The Slightly Anachronistic Canon Divergence AU). This kind of stuff is where you have to tread carefully, because you don't want her to know too little, but you don't want her to be an expert, either.
