Ooo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Wanting to play her better than the movie is kind of...beside the point of being IC. You have to work with what you're given, and what you're given is an extremely sheltered, emotionally stunted girl whose issues aren't going to disappear just because by the end of the movie she knows her sister loves her and the people of the kingdom have accepted her powers.

My advice is watch the movie a few times, especially for her body language. It's often at odds with what she's saying or doing. Keep in mind that someone who grew up shut away from the world is going to be very ignorant of a lot of things most people take for granted, such as picking up on social cues and what idioms or sarcasm mean. Play her naive but not stupid and keep in mind that she has an overall aversion to being touched that isn't going to magically go away easily or quickly. Also, be aware that her fuck it, I'mma do what I want moment of running off and building her ice palace was less about a true sense of freedom than about anger and isolating herself in a new way, more on her terms but still very much a prison. Strong emotions still frighten her. Control is an overarching theme of her life, and that which she can't control she generally tries to flee.

I think if you don't approach the movie from a position of "they sucked with that and I can do it better" and instead use the base materials laid out for you there as a building block for her in a new, unfamiliar setting, you should do fine.

Sorry anon, that was poorly worded of me. What I meant was along the lines of how I'd like to play her as a character with more depth, as I feel like she got shafted in favor of Anna's story. The movie makes her feel more like a tool than a character of her own right.

You've given some great advice and I appreciate it very much. Thank you!

It's almost entirely unrelated to the quality of the canon itself, but "better than canon" rhetoric (especially for kids media) tends be a red flag for "hmm, you know Avatar the Last Airbender would have been improved if it had Game of Thrones levels of rape and gore" or "I think it would be a good idea to make Harry Potter a militant atheist who can never, ever lose an argument and give him Goku powers."
