Ooo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

from the bottom up, what are must-reads before gunning for the o5 in the land of rp?

it really depends on who you're thinking of playing, anon.

My favourite book with the 05 is First Class. It's not entirely consistent with the rest of canon, but I think it works really well for characterisation, and anyway it's super fun. (If you're playing Jean, I HIGHLY recommend First Class: Marvel Girl.)

For a retelling of the original stories, there's Professor Xavier and the X-Men, which goes up to the first sentinel attack.

X-Men: The Hidden Years covers the gap between the Silver Age and All-New X-Men. Not amazing, not horrible, might be useful.

The X-Men: Origins issues are, again, not entirely consistent with other canon, but there's some neat stuff in them. And you basically decide what's canon for your purposes and what's not. o/

the scene that's interrupted when they leave for the future is taken straight from uncanny x-men #8. that being only a handful of original issues, you should definitely read them to understand where they sit on the timeline

they did have a few crossovers by then, so you'll also want to check out tales of suspense #49 (for angel especially), avengers #3, strange tales #120 (iceman especially), fantastic four #28, and journey into mystery #109
