haven't decided on a canon point yet, so mostly i'm just looking for general advice/tips, please!

Decide on a canon point first, because, unlike some other characters (Kairi, as an example) her development could be summed up as, "Blank slate grows feelings and a personality, struggles with certain issues and becomes confused and lost, becomes okay with merging back into Sora and sacrifices herself in the end." And all of this taking place in a year.

Which isn't to say that other characters don't experience growth, just that Xion's growth is so considerable and condensed in so little time that it's really important to get an idea of about when you'd want to play her (do you want her as a shy, empty shell? do you want the angrier Xion confused by Riku's words? do you want the one who sacrificed herself at the end and asked Riku to stop Roxas?) and then go from there.
