Snores passive aggressively

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

how do you make them interesting in settings where they're not in their element?

culture shock not interesting enough for you?

Like the above anon said, play with culture shock for a while and how their personality goes with it.
Are they fascinated? Terrified? What if someone from their world shows up? "OH MY GOD YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS" or "Yeah, I totally know how to use this SUPER ADVANCED FUTURE DEVICE. I'm pretty impressive." Have them trade histories and facts with someone from another world completely because they're thrilled about the idea of other worlds existing. Maybe they try to do things how they always do, working around new conveniences instead of with them because they're stubborn. Maybe they're super intrigued about this whole different world that such and so is from, with their strange foreign customs.

IMO, having a character work with being out of their element is easier and more interesting than having a character know what they're doing all the time. Think about how your specific character would react to being thrown into different settings with different ways of doing things.

echoing the above anons, and suggesting you take a look at smaller details too. if they're in a modern setting, what new foods are they introduced to? ideas? types of music?

if they're not the type of character to display a lot of open, big culture shock, you can still have it bleed through in small ways

do they try to assimilate? to make this world more like the one they left? etc
