Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)Aw, I got super excited until i saw the OC rule :C it seems... idk, a little unnecessary? Other games use this same rule but they usually reserve it for native to the setting OCs which makes sense because you'd want a player to be familiar with the game before playing from it, but that isn't the case here so it feels out of place.
I'm assuming the rule could be (at least partly) in place because of the possibility to return to home worlds and the work that would require on the players part to fill in world information, or for one reason or another you feel like OCs have trouble making AC and want to check players before you'll allow it. But in either case, I don't understand why requiring more from an OC application wouldn't be a better option? If an OC player can provide a quality app and samples then whether or not they play a canon character first shouldn't matter.
Then again, you might have a reason I haven't thought of for it, but as a prospective OC-only player I really hope you change it eventually. This game looks very promising and it would suck for other OC players and myself to miss out on the fun!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)Regardless of what the reasons behind it are, it creates a speed bump for entry into the game, and it enables the idea of creating a short-term character whose sole purpose is to serve as your 1-2 month resume to earn the privilege, a character that may then be subsequently dropped if you didn't really want to play them. And, if the game then institutes a "You cannot have OCs if you do not continue to have at least one canon character" rule, it forces players who may be more comfortable playing one character to maintain two just to play what they want.
Not worth it. Go find another game where you aren't jumping through flaming hoops, however small they are. There's games without these kinds of requirements out there.
And, while I realize that this rule is most easily applied to OCs, it can be applied to a number of other possibilities. It isn't the fact that it's an OC that bothers me. It's the fact that, before you can app something you might legitimately find interesting in a setting, you have to jump through an added, month-long or more hoop to get permission, while the rest of the game is free to do as they please. I might yield if the reason was given, as it would assuage a little of the 'why us and not others,' but really the whole notion that you should ever have to prove yourself in this way, and others do not? It speaks to a sort of game structure, dynamic and moderator attitude that I don't find healthy in games.
*jabs thumb over at Haven* They're open and taking apps, and they don't make stupid requests like this.
