Shut up

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

lmao oh my god this pod people shit are you kidding me how obtuse can you get

you are missing the point to an unbelievable degree are you abled or just a hyper-pedantic tool

people who are disabled experience this phenomenon where the general public sees them as less human than an abled person because that shit deeply ingrained into our society

it doesn't matter if the word or phrase in question is adult or real person or anything else that is what has happened here

the message that "disabled people are less human/adult/valuable" was conveyed

you can try to play semantics all you want but you're full of shit and basically need to shut up and sit down because you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about

guess what, words have actual applicable meanings, not whatever you want to pretend they mean. real person =/= adult =/= valuable =/= human deserving respect and rights, and the point of this fucking thread is flying over your head like a g4

the question here was 'what [arbitrary standards] do you consider a real adult,' not 'what do you consider a real person' or 'what do you consider a human' or 'who do you think is valuable to society'

a person saying "i think this constitutes an adult!!" and someone not fitting the bill doesn't mean that they're not also considered a non person and a second class citizen and not valuable.

how about you sit your ass down and consider the actual question being asked here before riding off on your misplaced outrage train

wow did you know that when people don't consider you an adult they respect you less and treat you differently and are seeing you as lesser than people who are objectively your peers

i don't care about the question that was asked that's not what i am talking about nor is it what anyone who called this shit out was talking about

the answer was inherently ableist and so was da's comment

it doesn't matter if it was intended or not when you put shit out there you open it to criticism

this defense is honestly a flimsy and transparent mashup of "it's just an opinion" and "they didn't mean to be x-ist/phobic"

but if you want to go on thinking that it was an acceptable thing to say and that us poor silly disabled folk can't recognize ableism and don't understand how it works then by all means continue

Re: da

the original comment does not exclude people with disabilities, besides a very very small minority of disabled people who are incapable of speech or movement. if someone is disabled and still capable of speech, movement or reasoning, they are able to contribute to their own care and therefore, as per the original commenter's definition, adults if they choose to do so.

so you can fuck off with your patronising "disabled people can't do anything" implications.

Re: da

some disabled people who can do those things are not in a position to do any of the things that were meant to be qualifiers and the comment did not say "unless you have some kind of disability that prevents you from doing so"

no one went in saying there aren't disabled people who can do these things because disability is not a one size fits all kind of deal and we know that the first anon to criticize it specified crippling disabilities even

and bullshit @ patronizing i'm disabled myself and can speak move and reason but i have still had long stretches of time when i could not do any of the things that would supposedly make me an adult
