Shut up

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Rotundus is latin for rotunda, and is the name of the castle town in the game. If you check out the setting, it should be obvious why we went with rotunda. I hope this helps you understand why we went with this, anon. c:

Listen, I'm going to give you some advice. Stop replying to things logged-in here. It makes you seem unprofessional and over-invested in anonymous communities. It doesn't set a good precedent for you as a mod if it looks like all anyone has to do is complain on anon comms and you'll come running.

I chose to respond to show that the mod team listens to members and/or potential members and to explain why we went with the name so it didn't appear obtuse. Was that a mistake on my part?

Yes.

The thing is, you have no way of knowing if people on anonymous communities are prospective or current members. They could just be stirring shit. If people have problems, they should come to you directly. Answering them on anon comms just makes it seem like people can bitch to their heart's content here and you'll always respond, instead of requiring them to take official channels.

Like I said above, it sets a bad precedent. I co-modded with someone in the past who answered anon complaints here constantly and changed things in the game according to what anons said, and it just turns into a huge mess. You're rewarding people who complain anonymously instead of people who act like adults and take their complaints to you directly.

My bad, then. I hadn't considered this and I agree that having people bring their complaints to us instead of the other way around is much better. I'm assuming this doesn't mean we should just ignore anonymous communities 100% though, right? I ask to make sure I'm fully understanding the situation and not being an awkward doof.

Mod of another game: absolutely pay attention to the anon comms, provided you have some thick skin. You'll get wanked on, your game will get wanked on, you have to be able to ignore that. Use the threads for information, to keep an eye out for things you should be aware of. But don't act on complaints only made in an anon comm. If there's somewhere people can approach you anonymously (if they feel the need), and the issue's important, they will approach you. If they don't, it's just idle complaining.

Don't comment on your game's thread even anon, if you can avoid it. Monitor, but don't interact. You want people to come to you if they want you to do something.

Yep the anon above me has it right. Monitor anon comms (and take everything said here with a grain of salt because a lot of the time it's just people blowing off steam) so you can keep an eye on potential problems, but unless people actually bring stuff up to you, it's probably best not to engage.

Got it guys, thanks! Not gonna post anymore, as per the advice, just dropping this anon comment to let you guys know I read it.

For what it's worth, I don't mind that you replied logged in. Anons will get their panties in a twist over the dumbest shit possible 110% of the time. If you don't reply to accusations made against you/comments like mine, people act as though you "aren't available and don't respond to criticism". If you DO respond to them, people act like you're "high stung and way too invested because how dare you explain yourself". And then if you go the route of making a mod post in the game instead of replying to a comment on a comm, you're "clearly reading anoncomms anyway how pathetic".

Anyway the only reason I wasn't a big fan of the name choice is because this is what it makes me think of immediately:
ro·tund
rōˈtənd,ˈrōˌtənd/
adjective
1.
(of a person) plump.
synonyms: plump, chubby, fat, stout, portly, dumpy, round, chunky, overweight, heavy, paunchy, ample; More
antonyms: thin
round or spherical.
"huge stoves held great rotund cauldrons"
synonyms: round, bulbous, spherical, spheric More

Which seemed weird, lmao. But it's a really petty complaint obviously and was stupid when I posted it this morning so I apologize.

Coincidentally, someone mentioned rotund being the first thing they thought of/misread it as. I actually brought this up to my co-mod and, taking the mick out of ourselves, thought the idea of a Willy Wonka-style event where a strange new food item shows up in Rotundus and anyone who eats it bloats up like the girl in the movie would be funny. Though it does come down to public opinion and wouldn't be something we'd go through with if the members weren't all for it.

As for the complaint, no need to apologize! I just figured explaining the name would make it seem less goofy but even if it does still seem goofy I hope that doesn't go and dissuade anyone from joining.

Things like what you pointed out in the first paragraph (especially considering how the other da acted upthread) are why I personally don't want to ever mod a game, no matter how much I'd love to launch one.

For the Rotundus mod team: Good luck to you guys. I wish you the best!

rotundus is latin for rotunda????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

(Anonymous) 2014-06-01 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
latin for round. is this really that big of a deal though? i get the meaning behind the word choice. i looked over the game and i see references to things that are round.
