Shut up

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

being able to do what they want without being stopped by financial, mental or social concerns

Wow what a terrible definition

In fact that sounds either childish or sociopathic

sorry, I clearly phrased this wrong. I was trying to say that my idea of a real adult was someone with full or reasonable financial security, were either healthy mentally or knew how to manage and live with any mental conditions, and weren't crippled or had their decisions and lifestyle dictated to them by social concerns or anxieties.

so people who are poor through no fault of their own aren't real adults?

this isn't better

like it sounds way less sociopathic, at least, but you've just eliminated anyone struggling with mental or physical illness or economic hardship or a disadvantaged position in society from "adulthood".

(unless you meant [crippled or had their decisions and lifestyle dictated to them by social concerns or anxieties] instead of [crippled] [or had their decisions and lifestyle dictated to them by social concerns or anxieties], which only nyxes the physical illness bit.)

I'm getting the idea I just shouldn't have commented here, but in one last attempt at explanation: I'm unemployed and struggle with mental illness. Technically I definitely count as an adult, but I don't feel like one (though I do understand that no one ever really "feels like an adult"). The things I listed may not be the best defining lines, but they're what I aspire to and measure myself against. They're things I experienced briefly at one point, and would like to have back. I don't shit on or judge anyone else for arbitrarily not meeting them, as I do personally understand the nuances of context.

I want financial independence and stability, I want to be able to confidently and consistently manage my mental illness, and I want to be able to make decisions and interact in social situations without being stopped by what other people think of me. That's my adulthood.

I'm not going to try and argue or defend my words here any further. I'm sorry if I upset or offended anyone who consider themselves adults that do not have the things I listed.
