how about you take your entitled, impatient head out of your ass.

i'm sorry but given how dwrp operates, and how fast the game was moving, a week WAS a huge amount of time

i didn't see it anywhere on the game info that this was a fucking contest. there's 160+ characters, that's at least 100 players and not all of them will be tagging at OMG SUPER FAST I CAN'T KEEP UP speed. maybe you could idk pace yourself? just a thought? some people tag fast. some people tag slow. and what's with this "how dwrp operates" bullshit? who gave you a PhD in dwrp?

my character would just walk away after a certain of time and forget it. so what, i have to dead-end the cr or not pursue any at all because he doesn't speak one of the more convenient languages? how is that fair?

what's not fair is bland unimaginative players like you complaining about how you have nothing to do with your character when there's a hundred and one options right in front of your face. so your character can only speak french, so what? make something up. punch characters. barf on an alien. do barrel rolls in front of an npc. play the name game with a random stranger who won't understand wtf your character's even trying to accomplish. how lazy are you that you're playing an antisocial non-english speaking character and you're depending on chat for cr?

i got my fill of it at drop point, why was there a need for part 2 of it right away?

it's not even part 2, it's part second-half-of-a-game-plot-cut-short, and i'm not even fronting here, i'm irritated. i was looking forward to getting my character to learn english the hard way, and now it's off my rp table because of whining tits like you. this is unfair. literally every other game out there has magical translating smartphones/whatever and players like you had to screw it up for the one game i could find where there isn't any.

TL;DR if you wanted a game with magical translators where your character can just sit back and gossip his way through cr, maybe you should have apped at those games.

i agree with this, although maybe not as aggressively, but if you'd like your character to still have to learn english, there's a time lapse that the mods put in that made it so whoever wants their character to lag on getting the translation pack can do that. it might not be a huge lapse, but it's something if you want your character to play with that.

i'm a little butt mad that something that isn't often seen in other game mechanics was taken out so quickly, but when you have people whining like that, i can understand the mods wanting to cut it off at the pass.

i would have let them drop, tbh. it looks like some people are already wanting not only their ~give it to me now~ fix, but they expect to be catered to and had their hand held and walked through every thing.

this is not the game for them.

OK, so now I'm really confused. How long was this language situation slated to go on for originally? I was under the impression that the regional language update was included in the first supply drop in any case, so there wouldn't have been time to be actually forced to learn a new language.

I'm planning to have my character work on other languages anyway. It's not like all language shenanigans are dead-ended and all your toys are taken away, guys. You can still do a lot of things with this, and the mods have already said that language problems will come up again.

If anything, ICly the unreliability of CDC tech and preparations is already demonstrated, which should give a lot of characters a kick in the pants to start preparing for eventualities.

as I understood it, only some updates were coming with the drops. more would arrive with further drops. that meant the possibility that some people might not be able to understand one another for a while longer.

i wouldn't have been surprised if that first update included all languages for in-game characters

we'll never know

looking at the rest of the game thread, there's a split already between people who want to work heavily with the setting and people who just want to play and not sweat the details

both should be playable but that divide's going to cause trouble time and again. especially with people dropping sour little omg i hate it so much comments here to watch the wank fly

that was really aggressive in hindsight yeah, it feels good to have written that out though. i wish that "drop level unplayable" person would just drop and save everyone the embarrassment.

venting's good for the soul. or is that chicken soup?

i know personally that i'd feel better if people would look at the game mechanics from the perspective of the whole instead of just how it concerns them. sure, it'll suck for that one person for a bit if they can't figure out a way to work past it (and i've given quite a few suggestions on how they could have), but they didn't seem to think about how the rest of the game would look at it.

there was no consensus or consideration for if anyone else was having an okay time with it or not. nope. just four or five people pulling a sulkfest in here about how they'd actually have to work for cr.

4-5 people does not the game make. i'd like to see people actually looking at how it affects the game as a whole instead of just their singular character.

This is just one case, and given the widespread OOC problems with the mechanic, it's possible the mods really thought this was the right call. No matter what it was down to, there was a lot of confusion and discontent. (ha)

I'll be worried if we get a pattern of caving to anoncomms, but we aren't there yet.

ayrt's logic should be applied to both sides of the equation

I think the mods made the right call at this point. We had a pretty good run with this round of language problems, and since the problems were so widespread, it makes sense to take a step back, evaluate and prepare for next time.

Personally, I would prefer some unpredictable rashes of language problems over the course of the game rather than one huge concentrated spurt that would satisfy some players but would probably sour a lot of others on the mechanic forever.
