I thought it was a chocolate chip

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I hate when I give someone crit and they seem to take it well on the surface but then they suspiciously stop playing the character immediately after

It doesn't necessarily mean anything about them, you or the crit, anon.

Maybe they felt their interpretation was too off to correct, maybe they don't have time or energy to canon review or whatever they need to fix their voice, maybe they were off because they already weren't really enjoying the character anymore. Or even all of the above. I've had the last two happen to me before, even without being given crit, so it's entirely possible.

Or maybe they're just taking a step back to do a canon review, and not play the character until they're done! I mean, they could also be a tittybaby, but the possibilities are endless.

Sounds like it wasn't crit so much as brutal "why I dislike how you play the character and why you are wrong" if they decided to stop playing the character.

come on. we're talking about rpers, if you think that nothing less than a brutal teardown could possibly cause this reaction, you are wrong

Naaaaah. I got really positive, constructive crit one time, and I still stopped playing the character because it was good enough to make me see that a) my character was OOC and b) I only liked playing my character with my OOC "growth". At that point you might as well just pick up a new character that's better suited to you, because getting good advice on how to change and ignoring it because that's not as fun... well. Yeah.

Just one example of why it can happen, but good crit can change someone's mind about playing a character without running them out on a rail.
