I thought it was a chocolate chip

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

they think that all trans men get male privilege

because they are stupid

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
this is pretty much it

i'm a lesbian who's questioned their gender before and it sent some people through the roof and they automatically assumed because i was feeling dysphoric and i liked women that i was exactly the same as a cishet brodude with maximum dude privilege

it was the shittiest thing and unfortunately not that uncommon

respecting peoples' identities is cool and all but when you're deliberately deluding yourself about the actual reality someone faces when they log off tumblr and walk outside, that's when we have problems

i saw someone actually say that transmen are never discriminated against for being transmen, only for being trans.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
In a way, it's true. Trans guys aren't discriminated against for being men. Bigots don't see trans guys as men; they see them as girls that are "stepping out of their place" and treat them accordingly. Honestly, I'd say that both trans men and trans women experience misogyny.

Trans women are the targets of extreme violence and stigmatization because society sees them as men that are "lowering themselves" to femininity, hence the origin of transphobia against trans women is partially misogyny. Trans men are never seen as men in the first place, and consequently are also the victims of misogyny.

i can see that argument but their point was that transwomen have it much worse than transmen and transmen were basically just cis men

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say that the factors involved vary so much that saying one has it worse than the other is a vast simplification. The primary time when a trans guy has it "easy" (as easy as it can be while still being trans) is post-transition, and if absolutely no one finds out he's trans. To insist that pre-transition guys are the same thing, socially speaking, as cis men, is utter bullshit. Even post-transition, the privileges gained are always conditional and can be taken away in an instant if the wrong information should come out.

Privilege isn't about how you identify. It's about how the oppressive class views you. If your oppressors don't think you're a man--specifically, a heterosexual, masculine-presenting man--then male privilege is not something you are going to have.

yeah

i agree with you

i meant 'their point' as in 'the tumblr idiot i was attempting to make fun of had this point'

but this is a very good point made in a very smart way so
