I'm looking for some advice, anons. I'm in a game that's ending soon, and after it ends, I'd kind of like to app into an ECATS game. Some of the premises look interesting and/or cute, from what I've seen.

This would be all well and good except I feel like you kind of need to be in ECATS already to have any luck apping into ECATS. Am I entirely off-base?

(Also, what is this ice cream ECATS game, it looks cute but the google is failing me when I try to find it...)

Hey there anon! First of all, for the ice-cream game you're interested — it's not a game, it's a musebox — and it's free for all. If you're not sure you can hop in, I suggest asking Celi directly (if you see a plurk about it, just ask right there). A few people who expressed interest in the planning stages have never been on a single ECATS game, and they're welcomed just fine.

As for apping into ECATS games in general, that's also something not to worry about! I don't know about CFUD, but the other two games open right now (Kyriakos, Aather) have newbies pretty regularly. The ice cream musebox doesn't require an app at all though, so you don't really need to write one either.

This was super-helpful. Thanks a lot, anon! If I see a plurk, I'll ask Celi.

Also, thanks for the general info. I've been eyeing Kyriakos especially hard for a while now, so I'm glad to hear it's newbie-friendly.

Any particular reason why?

i'm going to be honest with you here

ecats is a cesspool of shit

your entire timeline will judge the shit out of you. you'll be faced with oneliners 100% of the time. all of them are animu with bordered icons, they all talk like 5 year olds on plurk, they're cliquish and flaky to the extreme, unfriendly and generally obnoxious

pick a reason

85 percent of dwrp will avoid you if they know you have anything to do with ecats, and rightly so

Yeaaaah, I'm an ECATS player who also plays in a non-ECATS game. I don't hide the fact that I do ECATS and I've had absolutely no problem getting CR in my other game. SO.

OP, there are SOME people who might judge you, but they're not as prevalent as the anon above is trying to make out. Also. They're assholes.

Having played in several of the ECATS games, I can say that you definitely don't need to be in it to have any luck apping! I RPed for at least a good four or five years before joining Aather, and I never felt weird about being non-ECATS.

Kyriakos in particular has had a lot of people who've never played in the ECATS style, and I'd say is much more willing to do tags with a little bit more prose in them. I know a lot of my tags recently have been introspection-heavy, and a lot of the people I thread with will gladly use small tags, and don't really care if you match them or not.

The ice cream game is dreamscape; it's a musebox-style being run by Celi, and I'm pretty sure it's relatively open-ended. I can't recall the journal off the top of my head but I think it's "hushabye".

Thanks for the info, anon! I'm really interested in Kyriakos, and the more I hear, the more excited I get. It's good to know people are okay with a little bit of prose.

An anon upthread filled me in a bit on the ice cream game, but thanks for the info there, too.

I think I'm settled on going for it once my current game ends!

I'm also in a game that's ending this year and have joined an ECATS game recently for the first time. I'm having a LOT of fun, anon! The people are really friendly and things tend to be easygoing. I'd really recommend it.

I'm glad to hear it, anon! The comments upthread have been really helpful, and I feel a lot better (and a lot more excited) about apping in once my current game ends.
