Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

you can't just make a ship appear out of thin air, though. it's one thing to ask someone you've been threading with if they're interested in playing a ship, that's a perfectly reasonable thing to ask. it's something else entirely to ask a whole bunch of people whose characters don't even know yours well if anyone wants to ship with your character.

that says to me that all they care about is having a ship, not whether the characters have any chemistry or whether it would make any ic sense. if that's all you're interested in then you're probably better off sticking to memes.

which isn't the case at all if you're actually following this shit pile. someone was in a game. someone was playing with characters. everyone was happy and some people were shipping. someone asked if people would ship with her. she got a pity shit. then she found out it was a pity ship and said 'this isn't really fun if i know you're not enjoying it, let's not'. someone then went to another game, while staying in the first game, and found a ship they could play in.

op is just an entitled jerk with something against the player and/or ocs and is pissed that 'someone' actually found what they were looking for even though they'd been turned down by them and their clique.

i did read it and i think the friend was being dumb and entitled. if you say "i want a ship, any ship" you don't get to complain when what you get isn't exactly what you wanted. that's like going up to the ice cream counter and saying "give me ice cream" and then getting upset when you get handed pistachio instead of rocky road.

but that's not what happened, anon. yes, the person asked for a ship, but i'm pretty sure that like anyone else, they'd rather have not have someone take up the offer than do it out of pity or whatever reason was given. personally, i'd rather go shipless and just enjoy my gen cr than put out ship feelers and get someone who's playing with me out of some sort of sense of obligation or pity. that shit sucks, anon. so yeah, when they found out it was a pity tag and not someone who was genuinely into it? bailing seems like a good idea. but they only bailed on the ship, not the game.

and i know this from experience, since i've been in a game and set out feelers for ships. i didn't have anything specific in mind, i just wanted to see if anyone was curious/interested. i got a few nibbles and the one that worked out has stuck solidly and is my favorite ship to play out. not knowing what you want specifically doesn't mean you're just a ship hungry cock monster. sometimes the idea of a ship just seems fun and you want to join in on it. doesn't mean they should be 'satisfied' with being given scraps.

to use your analogy, it's more like going into an ice cream counter and saying, "I want an ice cream, surprise me." and getting tofu in a bowl. sure, it's something, but it's not ice cream.

asking if anyone might want to ship does not necessarily mean OHMYGODRIGHTNOW, come on.

if they want to ship it's totally reasonable to gauge ooc interest, see if anyone thinks their characters might click, and then the characters can get to know each other better so they can work toward that. if none of them were close enough to her character yet for one to have developed naturally then it makes complete sense to be upfront about what she wanted and try to arrange that cr a bit instead of just silently hoping it happened.

or did i wind up in an rpanons twilight zone where everyone's response suddenly isn't 'oh my god, just ask for what you want!! make plans!! cr doesn't just come to you!!!'
