Aloof is an awful word choice. Aloof: "not friendly or forthcoming; cool and distant. conspicuously uninvolved."

And this explanation contradicts your original assertion that Cloud directly reflects Zacks 'real personality.'

I would also point out the original game made it clear it's not that Zack is unaffected by what happened, it's that Zack straight up could not be effected by the experiments in the first place. Zack's situation with the experiments is just being imprisoned for a few years, as opposed to Cloud's situation of experiencing horrible torture for a few years.

Because Zack was strong enough that Jenova didn't do shit to him and he could retain himself.

My point is largely there was a very good reason I found Cloud and Zack to be annoying twats back when I played the original game. Cloud and Zack were never cool, they were obnoxious dweeby-mc-dweebersons with enough energy to annoy me.

i literally never ever said that cloud's personality on the first disc was a perfect mirror of zack's or even a good mirror of it. i'll give you that "aloof" was a terrible word choice, but you're also putting words in my mouth.

and i don't mean physically affected, i meant mentally/emotionally. dude was trapped in a human-sized tube for four years. it doesn't matter that the jenova didn't react to his body, hojo still poked and prodded and fucked with him anyway. and also he just had to kind of float there and watch hojo completely ruin cloud, and there was nothing he could do about it. it just strikes me as atypical for a person to walk away from something that like "la la la la la nothing bad happened nothing's wrong."

dweebiness and everything else aside, though, zack as a character in the original game was meant to be a character that was more experienced than cloud was and was a suitably good role model. but in crisis core he's so naive and immature and inexperienced that it really doesn't work. even when he's elevated from second to first class, he undergoes absolutely no change in outlook or demeanor, and he continues to be that silly kid tagging after the adults like "hey guys what's going on idgi!!!!" it doesn't fit with the role that the character is meant to fill. i get that those kinds of experienced in-the-know characters don't exactly make for good protagonists in games like this, but maybe the solution to the problem should've been to just not make the game at all in the first place, because it was a ruinous mess that completely retconned an extremely important moment in canon (sephiroth's breakdown and the reactor incident) and was filled with a cast of super annoying characters.

i mean. i agree with you. even in the og, zack and cloud are far from my favorites. but crisis core took how much those characters sucked to begin with and made them suck even more, and i just don't understand what about it makes people suck that game's dick so hard. the plot is a complete nonsensical mess, gackt as a character was terrible and completely ruined any chance that game had at being taken seriously or fitting nicely into the pre-established canon, the characters are annoying as all fuck when they have no right or reason to be (again: aerith), the gameplay is out-and-out terrible... what's to like about this game?? shounen protagonist!zack, apparently, according to the anon that started this mess. i just don't get it.

so, to the original anon: yes, i would ignore every. last. bit. of the compilation, including your precious crisis core and your bb shouzack, because it is fucking awful garbage that causes way more problems than it fixes. and now you know why i feel this way.
