Oh beautiful, for spacious posts

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

op update!

Hey, guys! I've been contemplating this and, with Mini's drop, I think StE will probably survive. ... That doesn't mean I'm not interested in doing this, though! I'll most likely take longer on the uptake, though; I like to be thorough when I'm not in a rush, and I do still plan to app to StE now that Mini's out of the picture. This probably sounds like a conflict of interest, but I honestly love StE'S premise and I'm not going to drop it. I'm just going to work on another game with a similar base premise (reincarnation) but different plot.

Aaand for that, I figure I might as well play hardball!

First of all, to list our current options for setting-type and fluff:

StE -> Literally StE's plot, with aliens, mysterious soul stuff & a modern base setting. I don't really want to do this in the least with StE surviving, but if the majority wants it, I'll just prepare something for the "in case StE goes up in smoke" list.

The options mentioned here by me, aka:

Fantasy -> The theme is protecting the Earth from someone/something tearing magically through into their plane of existence and do something involving the Earth (and whatever plot secrets we pull out of our ass, IE Wise Snake). Monsters/normal humans at first operate on a SEP field-type effect, neither really sees the other except in special cases and shit, there would be potential for crossing planes into the world of the invaders, and other stuff. If I did this, I'd probably imitate the numbers system, but change it to be a unique symbol and only work on surfaces maybe? Haven't really decided yet the specifics, but it'd be fun!

Scifi -> Most people don't like this, so I haven't thought much about it. Still, just check out the post and see if you like it. Basically, swap the "Earth" setting for something more scifi, have it so humans just jointly managed the space race and can now move to other planets (and reincarnates could be a byproduct of the Earth trying to protect itself and keep people from leaving it, maybe?). Modern++ tech, but nothing that people would have trouble really understanding.

Stilts/"LET'S GET CRAZY" -> The setting is dramatically different from "Earth"/modern, but still the same. People live modern existences while dealing with hurdles new to the setting. The suggested example would be something like the world flooding and being years afterwards, when people have mostly adapted and travel between cities - this would be fluffed but there'd definitely be a ton of ways for houses to be put safely on water so cities could be wildly different - is settled, moving from there, having a strong conflict - IE, people rising up from the sea and trying to take apart the people above the water and ONLY REINCARNATES CAN STOP THEM, or something.

The other idea suggested so far was suggested here:

Lovecraftian -> Earth setting, with the reincarnates being hassled or manipulated or otherwise as they try to save the world from elder gods and cultists. Less monsters roaming the streets, but more manipulation and social issues on a character level, and running the risk of going insane, driving the people they love insane, and failing and having the world crumble into ash. Unlike the previous concepts, this is pretty Grim and Dark, and I'm not sure I could do it justice: Horror isn't my thing. If I did it, I'd probably relinquish most plotting to a mod more familiar with Lovecraftian-style than me.

With all that spelled out, if you guys want to add on a potential concept, just comment below! No idea is stupider than Weird Alien Shit, so don't be afraid to comment.

I also went ahead and made a poll, which can be found here. Throw in your comments below if you end up voting to steal from StE, or honestly if you vote at all!

I'd like to keep going on talking, but it's 5am and I want reactions and polling here, first; I'll close the poll as of the 10-11th (or earlier if I go for 1-2 days or so without receiving any votes, or extend if I think it's necessary). The next thing on my agenda is discussing what people are looking for in the game and what they like as a comm name (and so on).

I once heard Exsilium described the "bad end" of STE. So why not mashup the two concepts. Aliens have invaded and retaken the earth, most humans have been enslaved, but a few exist in ragtag bands, and volunteer to be reincarnated (via some sort of time-travel paradox shenanigans) as a last-ditch attempt to retake the planet. Their reincarnated selves "stabilize" their original selves when they travel back in time to change the past that led to the aliens' defeat of earth. Without the reincarnation inside them, their whole existence would just go poof every time they tried to time travel AND they wouldn't remember the changes in history that other time travelers make.

But here's the thing - every time a person goes on a mission to the past, or somebody else changes it, a little of their original self disappears, and the reincarnate personality becomes stronger. So it's a game where original characters all progressively become canon characters, with a whole lot of grief and angst and noble sacrifice all around.
