Rundown:

rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

the "timeline" doesn't actually matter

Yep. Like you can play Skyward Sword (which is the first chronologically) last just fine, especially since its one of the newer games release wise.

the only ones you need to play in order is Ocarina of Time -> Majora Mask, Wind Waker -> Phantom Hourglass, maybe Spirit Tracks (never played it), and Four Swords -> Four Swords Adventure. The rest can be played in any order.

With exception to maybe the very very earliest ones and some of the wind waker sequels for handheld, you don't really need to know the previous games at all to play. hell even some of the "sequels" are still fun without knowing the previous game, since if anything does get referenced it'll be explained anyway.
