Oh beautiful, for spacious posts

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Bakerstreet mod

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
How many of you would like to see Bakerstreet having a new mod? I've contacted DW about the spamming problem.

A change of ownership is possible if the current (missing) mod can't be contacted. That would take several steps, though, and I personally don't have time to do anything before June. After that I'll consider it.

Thoughts? Happy the way things are now?

Obviously the people spamming Bakerstreet are against a new mod.

I'm gonna be frank, if this happens and you become a new mod, I'd like to see some new tag categories. Tag things for gen, shipping, smut, etc. so that people looking for something specific can have a better chance of finding what they want.

Maybe tags for specific things that pop up infrequently, but allow people to make notifs in case they show up, like game reunions. Those are always fun.

I like categorizing things so yes, I'd definitely make sure tags are used more, and properly.

why not make a new meme comm? honestly curious

It seems like they always fail. Bakerstreet is already there and popular. I wouldn't change much about the way it functions now.

If they had a chance of success, I'd already be trying my hand at making a gen comm.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
Because it's been tried in the past and people never used the new comms because people would crosspost or link everything to Bakerstreet anyway.

it's hard to get the word out and everyone would just keep using bakerstreet.

honestly, probably the best way for us to kill bakerstreet would be to make a new meme comm and then intentionally spam BS in order to get people to stop using it and move to the new one.

i know that's shitty, but don't lie, you were all thinking it too.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you rather do that than have a new mod for Bakerstreet?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
preferably not? I mean, if there's actually a way to have the comm be handed over to someone else, wouldn't that be best?

What's with your hateboner about other people having fun in ways you don't approve of, anon?

Are you sure you or your friends aren't spamming bakerstreet so you have an excuse to take over?

How could I even take over a comm? Do you think DW would give me access to Bakerstreet just like that? Hardly. True, the ownership can be handed to someone else, but it's not going to happen overnight, or at all if the current mod shows up and tells DW they still want to keep it.

So far I've only enquired if DW staff can delete spam posts. In their reply they mentioned the possibility of a new mod. It's not something I even thought about beforehand.

If I wanted to "take over" Bakerstreet, I wouldn't be here asking for input and opinions.

The whole thing would be more or less fine if the option to tag anonymously could be turned off. The only real downside to that is for memes like IC Anon questions or In The Dark, where the meme requires anon tagging, but those could be posted in a separate journal like some memes are anyway.

Though that would require getting the mod's attention and cooperation, which... apparently is much easier said than done, so if a new mod's what it takes then a new mod it is.

Maybe the other anon who commented on the Roundup post today wants to become a mod?

As I said above, when I contacted DW my plan was not that but I thought it over for some days and wanted to know how others feel about it.

My main concern is to keep Bakerstreet as an active comm without trolls and harrassment.

Anon from the round-up.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't be against taking over as a mod if it comes to that. I mostly contacted DW to ask about all the spam and if there was anything at all they could do since the original mod has been absent for a LONG time.

They didn't say anything about being able to delete the spam, but they did say if my PMs to the mod accounts went ignored, then they'd see about appointing a new mod. I just contacted them again when my PM to the mod account went ignored and we had not only spam posts but more harassment of some players, but I've yet to hear back.

But yeah, in the end, that's my main concern as well. I don't care who mods it as long as there's someone around to take care of all the trolls and anonymous harassment going on. It's an uncomfortable thing to watch and if it keeps up or gets any worse, I'm worried it really will run off all the people who use Bakerstreet.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
So basically we've been doing the same thing and gotten the same response from DW staff.

I'm glad to know others are willing to deal with the trolling as well.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much, yes! I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't seem like we'll get the spam entries deleted, but it does seem like some of the meme posters are deleting the anonymous harassment so that's good!

I'm glad as well. I hope with two people (at least) contacting them over the situation and saying similar things, we can get something done.

I wouldn't be opposed to secondary moderating, however mostly it's - concern over people leaving because of the anon hate. I like bakerstreet and I don't want to leave and go to a dressing room or any of that.

The more people there are with this thought the better, I think.

Re: Bakerstreet mod

(Anonymous) 2014-05-05 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind the notion of any new mod as long as they don't turn into the Stop Having Fun Now Guys n Girls.

The appeal of bakerstreet is being able to do some casual RP at the spur of the moment, by posting whatever memes and characters the players feel like posting at the moment, in my opinion.

People will probably stay at bakerstreet as long as that doesn't change, but they'll probably eventually move elsewhere if things become too restrictive, I believe.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-05-05 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way but recently it's been the trolls doing the "stop having fun" thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-05 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, other anon inquiring DW about possibly appointing a new mod here.

I agree entirely with that. I wouldn't personally want to restrict anything. I'd just want to stop the harassment and spam, plus maybe make a calendar to show which memes are on a set rotation (TFLN, smut prompt, etc), etc. Just minor things like that.
