Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

After reading more threads and digging more I have to agree with the anon that replied above. Selphie has gone in canon through a lot of things as well, she was helplessly left to watch Trabia be destroyed the place that was her home for so many years which lead to many people she knew and probably even cared for to die, she also got captured (along with the others but neither was she alone when captured in HS), and she found out that someone knew more about her than what she did aka Irvine and the whole orphanage reveal. Yet she remained strong and optimist no matter what. She didn't need anyone to tell her to "stand for herself" or to be reminded to smile and to try to stay upbeat. In canon she has pushed through many horrible things, always with the same attitude and dragging along anyone who had to be dragged.

There's nothing of that in this Selphie. Not to mention that the whole side of her romantic life reminds me more of Rinoa than Selphie, down to the type of guy she's going after and her whole attitude about it (which she never displays in canon as far as I can remember). I don't doubt that she's fun to play with or to read for some, but *that* character isn't Selphie at all.

The game seems fun though so I will consider it for another muse.

why not also bring this up with the player instead of just bringing it up here, where not much will be done about it?? what's happened in game can't be changed, but she could try to improve any characterization issues you have with Selphie.

just like you want to join a cast, she may want to others to join hers as well, but if this is standing in the way for both of you, well...it makes it kinda hard.

I was going to do that before I tagged here. But her HMD doesn't allow anon and has IP log as well, I'm naturally wary of people who keep the IP log thing on on their journals when they have an HMD because it's basically a way to keep track on people who crit them. I've never tagged with her but if I end apping with another character I don't want her on my neck if she's the type that would compare the IP of a crit to that of the players in the game.

The game's wide HMD doesn't allow anon either, also has the IP log on and she hasn't even tagged to the most recent one.

I know it's probably stupid for those who haven't had the experience, but I have had people harass me for even giving crit that consisted on suggesting someone that they did a bit more introspection in their tags, especially their third person ones.

TL;DR I haven't brought this up to the player because the player doesn't have a way for me to do so without feeling unsafe. I have told all this to the person who suggested me the game, though, as they play there, so they may try to tell the player on my behalf.

Log in with a sock from a public library.

Hadn't thought of that one. Thanks for the suggestion! Will do so.

I don't think you should have to jump through hoops for this, though and I agree with everything you're saying, anon.

...Or she just didn't turn IP logging off since it's on as a default and most people don't think of it. Jesus Christ, you sound paranoid.

in other games someone who makes anyone have to find a loop to leave them anon crit or sock crit and who doesn't even comment on the game's hmd would be known as a "player that doesn't take crit". even more if they are as ooc as the anons before claimed.

turning off ip logging and turning on anon is well known in rp, the people who don't do either of those things is because they do it on purpose. if anon was on but ip logging wasn't off the "she just forgot" could work, but that's not the case.

now you just sound ridiculous.

Not at all. There's no reason that something that's considered "standard" shouldn't be. You're reaching for wank. This anon is perfectly civil and I know some corners of DW RP is scared of change, crit, and is only in it for "fun", but being IC is part of being fun. If the character is barely recognizable as their canon selves, there is usually a rule in most games that is vague and says "be IC" or something to that effect for that reason. This game may not have one, but that doesn't mean wanting to play with a character that resembles themselves in canon is ridiculous or that the anon is.

This player doesn't know the Selphie player, isn't in game, and has no idea how to gauge their reaction to crit and they shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get to it. An HMD with IP on and/or anon off is essentially just a marker for people to see and think it's all fine. Maybe they did forget to turn it off and maybe it would take you just as much effort if you have no problem with IP addresses to log-in and go "hey, you have IP logging on, you should turn it off" on the post."

No one is making anyone tag anyone else is the thing. And I wish DWRP would learn that more than anything else.

Or they're like me and they just don't care. I don't have an HMD, personally, because I literally do not care what others think of me. If they don't think I'm IC, they don't have to tag me. Those who like me will. And we'll have fun. I play really obscure characters, so it's not like I'm taking up a slot people would otherwise be scrambling for. Do I try to be IC? Yes. But I just really, honestly don't care otherwise when I have much more important things to worry about offline like money and making ends meet. I RP to destress.

if you don't care so much, then you should be writing fanfiction or be taking it to memes and museboxes. this is cooperative gaming and your fun is not the most important thing here.

Neither is yours, anon. No one's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to tag me.

make sure to out yourself as someone who doesn't actually give a shit about being ic or if anybody else enjoys playing with them so we can avoid you, please
