it's like you literally recreated rand al'thor into a tabletop rpg without even realizing it (in terms of powers anyway, not personality so much)

First what the hell is a Rand Al'thor?

Second, the abilities are something common for the game he's based off of. Every player character can manipulate reality in their own different ways, and they can learn pretty much any power in the game regardless of character class, so it's pretty hard not to go overboard with it, I realize. I've placed limitations on him beyond the game mechanics, and on top of that, game mechanics have a high probability of any of these powers having no effect or backfiring horrifically if things are being changed in ways that aren't subtle. Like I asked above, any ideas on how I can tone this down or cut it back?

drawbacks aren't drawbacks if they don't work, butt for brains. you're basing all of his limitations on the world around him and not on him as a character, even though you say you're not. if they were legit actual real limitations, they would actually limit him. completely. period. i don't get how this is hard.

look. it's right there in your comment. "it's pretty hard not to go overboard with it." no, it's not hard. it's probably actually super easy. you're choosing to give him these powers because you think they're fun. so instead of doing that, just. don't. do that. you don't need me to tell you how. and even if you did, i can't tell you how. i don't know the tabletop or the character.

and if you can't limit him because his entire character is based around his powers, then you done goofed. if you couldn't app him into a game that completely axes all supernatural/superhuman powers because it would render him unplayable or wholly uninteresting, then he's probably not that great of a character anyway. focus on a character's past experiences and personality, not his powers, because who the fuck honestly gives an actual fuck about your character's powers anyway? especially an oc? that's right, no one. powers are stupid. axe as many as you possibly can and don't make a big deal out of the ones you keep.

and i'm speaking as a dbz player, ok, i know a thing or two about game-breaking stupid OP characters.

Try to see if you can still describe an interesting character without bringing up their super special qualities/powers.
