as a fan of the series, that might be hard for a player to pull off icly, since he was either married for the first 2 seasons or had just lost his wife for the last one (two part season), which has only given him maybe half a year, IF THAT, to grieve. i don't think a decent chris player could actually play him coming into ariel while his daughter's there, especially not if they have him playing from recent canon. either way, it's an ic mess, even if i personally would love a chris in game.

I think if you're a decent RPer it shouldn't matter? Some players actually like to rp out that sort of mess. It's a dystopian game after all, it's meant to fuck you up and I find stuff like that a challenge. If I had anything resembling a Chris muse I'd jump on that in an instant.

for me it's less about being a decent player and more about the adage of 'not all characters can fit into every game type'. imo, unless you pull chris from pre-victoria's death and app in with a victoria, i just don't see it being icly doable. not only would he not cheat on his wife, but i hardly see hi bouncing back that quickly to 'fall in line' with any sort of sex rules. chris argent is a by the book, loyal personality. not only would he feel like he had more important things to do than fuck, but with his daughter in the game being made to do the same with more than just scott and/or isaac, chris would be actively fucking with the system to get both himself and allison, if not any other teenage/underage character he could out of the city. he'd wind up in re-ed both for non-compliance and for shit disturbing, which would be the only ic way to get him to have sex with anyone and would likely happen enough that he'd get broken via game mechanics.

unless you give no fucks about actual icness and just want to smut with a dilf. in which case, have fun with that. ariel is one of the few games where there is no 'be ic' rule.

how nice for you, but you're aware that there are game mechanics beyond just 'lol chip' to get a character to have sex, right? first month's free, second month could be anything from aphro to event sex to the government pulling him in and giving him a nice dose of re-education.

just because you don't think a character fits and you lack the imagination to figure it out, doesn't mean another player won't make it work.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
as i said from the beginning, it's in my opinion. if someone wants to bring him in, that's their deal, but whatever mechanics you want to use to get chris argent to have sex, they will all involve making him ooc. but as i said, ariel doesn't have a be ic rule, so that's completely fine.

if you actually legitimately think that chris argent would be okay or fall in line with having sex either while he's married or following his wife's death, depending on what canon point he's taken from, then you clearly do not understand the character. it's not about making the game mechanics work to get him to have sex. that's the easy part. not having him be any more self-loathing than he is or guilty or angry enough to actually lash out in destructive and self-destructive ways would be pretty much impossible. chris argent is a great character and i'd love to see more of them in games, but sex games just aren't the place for him. he's a man who just lost his wife and who would be more concerned with taking care of his daughter and her friends than in conforming to a sex city. that you somehow think this is about just getting him to have sex in the first place says more about you than i can.

but hey, what do i know, right? sure, get chris to join and then make him all about the dick. that's the whole point, right?

but sex games just aren't the place for him

Yeah, that's not your call to make. Sorry.

You sound incredibly overinvested and you need to take a serious step back here. You don't get to play app police and the fact you're even trying is pretty pathetic.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
and if you want to play the self-destructiveness? not everyone's going to accept ariel even grudgingly. i think it would be great to see a character who is self-destructive. and if he dies, ariel's going to bring him back, more mind fucked than before, but no one said he had to be happy.

you have strong opinions and i don't even know the canon, but just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you get to dictate any character that's apped in any canon, be it the self-destructive daddy figure or the sex fish

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ten bucks says they're the Allison and butthurt at the idea of daddy getting pulled in. Not sure who else'd be this gung-ho about somebody's father figure not being present because MUH CHARACTERIZATION.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
no, i'm not allison's player. i just think that if people want to bring in a character like that, they shouldn't want to because 'he's a badass character and i'd love to see him in the game' when the setting isn't going to give him the proper backdrop to be anything more than a dilf.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
actually i'm pretty sure the allison player would kill for a chris. i am all for this as well. I'd love to see what happens.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
if you don't know the canon, why are you commenting on it? self destructiveness is fine and i'll bet there's loads of people that want to play it and good on them, but that's not going to be the case here.

i'm willing to bet good money that if someone does wind up bringing a chris argent in, it'll be an ooc version who doesn't deal with any ic consequences of what he does and who magically turns mostly gay and is all about the d. as a person that loves the character, no, that's not something i want to see in game. i'd say the same about any extremely ooc version of a good character type.

ariel's not a 'dystopian' game in the sense that there's anything more than kink and sol to play. there's barely a plot and most people aren't playing out actual ic consequences for what they do in the city. they play out kinks. that's great. but if you want an ic version of that character that you don't know anything about, this is not the game for it. i'm not app policing or saying that no one should app him. app him. but don't expect whatever version that comes in the game to be ic or a good representation of the character.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
because you're being ridiculous? just because i don't know the canon doesn't mean i can't have an opinion, and my opinion is that you can't say that characterization will be completely thrown out just by virtue of being in the game.

you are app policing, you're characterization policing, you're being a general cloud of gloom because you have strong thoughts on a single character and overinvestment in not seeing him in the game. your bizarre insistence that it couldn't be done makes me hope we see someone fantastic take up the challenge so i can throw my character at him for all the d-less fucking

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm neither app nor character policing. i'm just stating what is the obvious fact of 'you're not going to get an ic version if any app into the game'.

but this is ariel and 90% of the playerbase is ooc, so who gives a shit.

Re: CITY OF ARIEL

You're not app policing except you're actively discouraging anyone who was even interested in the character, which amounts to the same thing.

There are also plenty of people who balance being IC with actually using the setting and not immediately taking the easy way out, so way to assume and assume incorrectly. Regardless of who you are or who you're not you're highlandering hardcore and just because you would handle a character a certain way doesn't mean everyone else would.

Take a chill pill, for real.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
who are you playing with that you've never seen ic consequences played out in ariel?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure who anon plays with but plenty of people I play with do have their character struggling with the setting. With some characters it's going to be less visible because they aren't the type to go running in tears to their CR and having meltdowns on the network. Hiding how hard adapting to the city is on them is more IC than public breakdowns.
