Yeah, I also don't see why we can't have love interests for them to protect. A big part of the genre is that love and friendship is what makes them stronger than the villains and removing that just makes it no longer magical girl.

Re: MAGICAL GIRL ACADEMY

ok hold on

there are non-magical girls in several magical girl anime/manga that act as civilian support for the magical girls. there's nothing about magical girl series that make them somehow less valid if there's not a boy involved

and not all magical girl shows have some boy they have to protect, nor is romantic love always the theme in magical girl shows. it's about friendship between girls. it's about girls. the entire genre is girl-focused. and some magical girls have female love interests.

if you want a spinoff game go ahead, but stop using tropes that aren't even common across all magical girl shows to justify your need and desire to insert a male character in a female character only game

But how will they be there? The school is in a pocket dimension.

One of the many reasons I never bothered thinking too hard about finding a way to move my nerd guy classmate character to this game. It's not part of the theme, not worth getting assdevastated over, there's more fish in the sea. The near neurotic level of defense it's getting though, is off-putting and why I won't be giving the game a second look.

Not the ones simply pointing out it's not in the theme and not the goal of the game. The ones ranting about it as if the game is a feminist rally, in a pass-time vastly dominated by us already. Listening to the choir preach gets old fast.

honest question: are you talking about another thread
because there's nothing "neurotic" about this one and no one is making it sound like a "feminist rally"
both of those terms however are making use of some charged language tho

Re: MAGICAL GIRL ACADEMY

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Should I exclude every thread about it, when every thread is still about the game? This one thread isn't the only one out there, and certainly isn't the only one people are going to build opinions on.

Re: MAGICAL GIRL ACADEMY

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
that's why i'm asking you if you're talking about another thread. i don't see your example here and i'm asking you to give proof of your claims.
especially since you're using language like "neurotic," which is a charged term often used to dismiss women and womens' issues in arguments, and referring to feminist rallies in a disparaging way

because as it is you sound like you're turning this thread and this argument into a soapbox to complain about your own feminist issues.

thank you for proving her point by immediately going "oh look you used this word so you must be trying to shut women down."

also majority of feminist rallies are bullshit and terrible representations of real feminism. most of them are gross ways for women to bully other women into conformity of what they think being a "woman" means or to hate on men for existing so they can feel superior.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm not even dismissing their point. i'm just pointing out that using that language isn't helping whatever point this person is trying to make
i'm legitimately curious when this game was treated as some feminist paradise in any other thread because i don't see it in this thread, which is why i asked for examples

by their point i mean their point about feminist rallies or whatever. i've heard terrible things about them myself but this isn't the point of this thread
why bring up that people are turning the game into a big feminist issue when there are no examples of it in this current thread
why even mention it if you aren't going to app anyway and don't intend to

idk why they mentioned feminist rallies specifically, but there have been discussions on rpanons, wankgate and plurk about how good this game is because it's where "girls can play girls without all the dicks." just because it's not in this specific thread doesn't mean it hasn't happened and isn't influencing the view outsiders have of the people who keep hyping up the game.

it's a dumb sentiment when dwrp is majority girls anyway. it's just trying to act like they're better than the girls who play boy characters with their icky penises. the feminist rally thing could have been an example of the same sentiment of ridiculous feminism that isn't really feminism. it's what turned me off from wanting to app and i don't even give a shit about whether boys are allowed or not. i just don't like how people who say they are apping have acted about it.

fair enough, but i actually just went back to check out wg and rpanons threads and this thread is the most traction this game seems to have gotten so far? unless you're talking about plurk, and i admittedly have muted a lot of those plurks that go by and given that ana was until recently around in those game plurks, i can only imagine what they were like

either way while i definitely don't agree that women who play male characters are terrible and holding feminism back, i do think there's a disturbing trend in dwrp and wg/rpanons in particular where if you do play exclusively women, and especially f/f, you get a lot of flack. i'm going give people who are defensive about playing women the benefit of the doubt because of that.

that said two wrongs don't make a right and giving people flack about what they play and acting superior about what you play is overall a shitty practice and i don't condone it. i'm genuinely sorry if you experienced that to the level of it turning you off of playing somewhere you wanted to play

i agree there is a trend that girls who only play girls get a lot of flack. although i've seen a lot of those same girls act say some really stupid shit like "can't play a character is they aren't a girl" and things like that. i don't think it means all of the people who like playing girl characters should get crap for their behavior though just like i don't think girls who play guy characters only should get crap for it. i gave the people who were really excited for the game a lot of leeway because magical girls are awesome and a game all about them should be fun, too.

i wish there was a magical preteen academy for everyone, but hey, it's not this game and that's cool for the people who are still interested. i don't get why THAT should be the big sticking point people get so uprooted about. be angry at the bad ooc behavior, but the mods of the game have the right to design their game any way they want. magical girls only is magical girls only.

plurk is definitely where a lot of the negativity is and it's just really turned me off from the game. this thread getting as vicious at it did in some places (on both sides) didn't help. maybe after a couple of months it will calm down and i might look at it again, but for now i'm staying out.

thanks for being civil about it, too. a lot of this has gotten really heated and mean really fast so i'm glad we could discuss things without the same happening.

what's wrong with feminist rallies?

Re: MAGICAL GIRL ACADEMY

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The last several I went to I got groped and told I shouldn't be wearing a bra because it's for the male gaze, by more than one person. And then told I have internalized mysogyny and was anti-gay by telling them if they touched me again I'd have them arrested. I prefer normal people. Feminist rallies attract the crazy.
