Way to go, RPanons

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

(i'll probably get around to it sometime today!)

If I was going to play anyone, I think it would probably be Princess Lenessia-- I really, really like everything going on with the NPCs, and I find a girl who wants to be apathetic and lazy but finds herself being the most influential person in the room, and using that, to be really interesting. Does she get a lot of screentime in the novels?

(I also really like Rudy, but mostly because he reminds me so much of Tamaki from Ouran and it makes me want to pinch his cheeks, not rp as him. XD )

(Enjoy! :))

Yeah, the NPC stuff is really fascinating, I like a lot of them but I just wish the ones I was interested in got more screentime/general appearances... Ah, well. But yeah, Lenessia/Raynesia (the Lenessia romanization seems to be entirely a product of whatever Crunchyroll/Horrible were doing with their transliteration, agh, romanizations) gets quite a few POV sections in the novels! There are also some scenes with her that were cut out of the anime entirely.

But yeah, if you're interested in getting into her head, you should definitely look into the novels.

(Rudy is so great, but yeah, he's one of those characters that would probably be pretty taxing to play.)

(I did enjoy! It made so much more sense when I had so much more sleep, hahaha.)

Pokin' at the novels now, anon! I've never read a light novel before, so the format is kind of bugging me, but I'm gonna make an effort for the princess.

(Oh good, haha.)

I'm curious, anything specific about the format bugging you? :o

It's just so... blunt? Bare? Tell-y? My favorite writers are fairly lush (or at least wordy), and some of my favorite books very much so.

when i instead am reading things like this:

The icon had turned pale to represent its recast time, and it was slowly recovering like an hourglass. Until the icon regained its luster, that spell was unusable. However, there were close to 30 other skills that Shiroe could use.

it just feels very barren and text-book-ish.

Ahhh, I think that's partly a result of the rushed translation, but it is also a light novel (though it's actually heavier than your average light novel). Personally I really like Mamare's prose better than the other light novels I've read, but hopefully editing will improve things. I've heard that later translations are better, too, but I haven't read those myself (I read them in another language).
