PETS

how and what did you name your pet(s)? does it fit them? do they have any nicknames? did you have any other ideas for names for them?

i have three cats: raie (f), midnite (m) and runtee (m), though i only named the first two. i named raie after sailor mars (my sailor moon book had a misspelling; i just stuck with it), midnite cause he was the most black in the batch of kittens he was in (i used to foster and name a lot of animals), and my sister named runtee cause he was the runt of the litter. i hate his name but i'm not gonna change it. nicknames are sweets, raiebone, bitch, puddincat, runtskers, fluffernutter, goofy goober, etc.

and i have one dog, joey, named after joey tribiani from friends cause he's cute and so SO dumb. nicknames are joe, job (like the bibilical name or arrested development), josephina, kujo, j-dog, and a lot of variations on big dumb idiot.

We have two cats: Willy and Chessie. My mom named them both. I don't know if Willy's name had any significance, but Chessie was named after the Chesapeake Railway mascot because she has the same coloring. Neither of them really have nicknames.

Then we have three dogs: Sera, Sophie, and Poppy. Sera's name is short for Seranade; the person we got her from named her that and my sister wanted to keep it. Her nicknames are Bob (idek) and Lion Cub. My mom suggested Sophie's name as Sofie, but i liked the "ph" spelling better. We sometimes call her Boulder because she will sometimes plant her feet and refuse to move during walks, and she's strong so she's hard to move when she does that. I named Poppy, but we also call her Lucy so much that it's practically a second name. I don't remember how that came about.

We also have a tortoise, a horse, and seven birds, but I've probably tl;dred enough already.

i have one cat, which i did not name. my father named her zeus. which i think is a terrible name for multiple reasons but what can you do.

i have a dog named bonnie jean, because brigadoon. but we usually call her bonbon because she's an absolute sweetheart. :3

there's a family tradition of naming pets after musicals or musicians (mom and her sisters had poms named Don Quixote, Dulcenea, and Sancho Panza as kids, my aunts currently have Lola (Damn Yankees) and Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady), cats name Winnifred and dogs named Mahler, things like that) so when we got a half-sheltie it seemed like a fairly obvious name to us, because we are all dorks :)

I have a corgi/shiba inu mix, his name is Leo

I didn't name him because we got him from the shelter and he already knew his name, but we keep giving him new names and he learn them really quickly because he's a weirdo

so we usually call him pumpkin, I have no idea why. because he's pretty orange? I don't know why I started doing this. recently we started calling him "bumby" and I also have no idea where this came from. a corruption of bunny because he bunny hops up stairs? I don't know

thank you!! he's such a sweet dog. i wanna see pictures of your shibe!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
mine's a sweet dog too. i got my wisdom teeth removed recently and she snuggled with me during my naps and cleaned my disgusting, swollen face a bunch. :')

she's so special, i made a tumblr for her: http://shiba-aki.tumblr.com

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
oh my god she's just a puppy!! what a cutie!

leo always steals my spots too >( jerks. he gets called "seat stealing baby" a lot.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
she's a feisty little girl. i'm visiting family (they own the beagle and chihuahua in the two first videos) and she's been beating them up a little and overwhelming them with her infinite puppy energy.

does leo bark/growl much? aki has the cutest growls and yappy little barks. she's obviously pretty terrifying.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
he cries/whines A LOT. it's so annoying. he definitely barks a lot. =_= does aki do the shiba scream?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
she's done it a few times, only twice in public. does leo do the scream at all or is he just a crybaby?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
he has done the scream before! but only because he wants my food. i kinda wish he'd do it more because it's really cute....

also he does this thing where he tries to bark in his sleep but it comes out like "bwoop bwoop" and it's so goddamn cute

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
food, huh? how does he feel about cheese? aki loves it. i bought a gas station sub one day and the server gave me a few extra pieces of cheese, and i'm pretty damn sure she smelled that cheese when i came home. scary!

such a cutie. i can't believe he's been abandoned twice. :( maybe his former owners couldn't handle a shiba mix?

i named my puppy after a yu-gi-oh character (her name is aki!). i thought about naming her after an anime redhead since she's red and japanese and the only other name that came to mind was asuka. i didn't want to be that dog owner/weeaboo who says "the u is silent!" though. i thought about naming her lucy too (after my grandma and one of my favorite bands, hungry lucy) but i didn't think it would fit so i gave her lucille as a middle name instead.

it fits her a lot in meaning but not so much with the character. it means "autumn" in japanese and she likes to chase leaves blowing in the wind. she's also an autumn baby.

Weee have two dogs at the moment, a Shih-Tzu and Yorkie mix named Sissy (I call her fat-ass affectionately) who's my stepmom's dog and then a Shih-Tzu named Baylor who was named that because my mom got the dog when my brother went to Baylor college, I call him dumb-ass since he's dumb as a post (love him, though).

I have a black and tan Shiba named Kaien (after the Bleach character)! He is much more boisterous than I was expecting - very vocal and aggressively affectionate. Almost three years, still chases his tail.

Also a cat - ginger-point Siamese and tabby shorthair mix named Westley. Adopted as an apparently relaxed shelter cat named Snowball, renamed Hannibal. When he started showing wild and growly-playful tendencies, my family half-jokingly wondered if renaming him once more would happen to mellow him out. Coincidentally, it seemed he did start calming down around then.

Our pet names are all over the place.

Our goldfish are named Huey, Dewey, and Louie, because we got the three of them at the big time, Carrot Top and Mountain Dew, because one had a splash of bright orange color on his head and the other was completely pale white, The Big Meanie, since he bites the other fish, and Beaker. There used to be a lot more, including a Professor Honeydew, but they died.

Our dogs were named Lindy Lou and Nevada Sue. Lindy was named for Charles Lindbergh and Nevada after the Sierra Nevada mountains. Lou and Sue were added because they rhymed.

Lastly, our newest addition is a cat named Loki. We wanted a regal, old-fashioned sort of name, and after going through a lot of historical, Shakespearean, and mythological names, we settled on Loki, because he's black with green eyes and very mischievous, so he looks a little like the Tom Hiddleston version.
