Enjolras is compared over and over and over again to gay figures in classic works by Hugo so Enjolras being gay is more in character than him being with a woman

the point of enjolras being chaste is not that he's asexual. it's that he thinks everything else is more important than sex. hugo does this with his other characters. valjean, javert, marius before cosette were all virgins.

but he is compared to gay figures not in relation to grantaire: antinous, harmodius and aristogeiton. these are all figures whose homosexual relationships were prominent in their stories or lives.
