idk, i guess because icon comms were always a heavily female-dominated part of fandom, so the people who are really setting icon trends and arguing about icon trends are mostly female. men can care about appearance too, but it seems like women are more likely to judge each other over appearance.

still, the average player (male or female) is just going to use whatever icons they can find, or if they have a little more grapics skill they'll do a simple photoshop crop of whatever art they can find.

also, remember that the gender of other rpers is usually not immediately apparent, so if you're basing your assumption on the handful of well-known male rpers who have shitty icons, you're ignoring a lot of male rpers who have nice icons, and you're ignoring a lot of female rpers who have shitty icons.
