right, i guess it's pretty 50/50 since half the appeal of visual novels is, well, the visuals, but i feel like that doesn't amount to much when the story is just so... mediocre

sweet pool and lamento look good and are decently written imo, at least compared to dmmd. there's not a lot i can compare dmmd to if we're just talking about games with english patches

not even gonna touch the lamento bit but my gripe with DMMD is that the art is lovely but the character designs are fucking atrocious. i love noiz but i also want to aggressively murder him for looking so fucking stupid. he's not even the sole offender.

The thing is that DMMd is supposed to be kinda cyberpunky and outlandish, that's the whole aesthetic of the game. And I seriously doubt they were trying to pass Noiz off as anything other than the hot topic rich kid trash that he is.

So I looked up Sweet Pool because I had no idea what it was, and:

Youji is a little bit nervous because he goes to school for the first time in several months. From that day, his surroundings gradually change.... Tetsuo unexpectedly approaches Youji. Youji asks Tetsuo why, but he never answers.... Youji gets scared of Tetsuo. Zenya also approaches Youji at the same time. One day, Zenya suddenly whispers Youji, "It's all your fault...." Strange pain.... Vivid nightmare.... Are they just illusions? What are Tetsuo and Zenya's purpose? Youji basically starts expelling meat monsters from his behind. Having had weak health all his life and only just getting back into school, he finds it hard to fit in. Shironuma Tetsuo is intitally cold, but slowly begins to warm up to Youji after finding out his secret.
