au supervillain/hero game idea

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have an idea for a AU panfandom villain/hero game. Not exactly fleshed out or sure if anything will come of posting this, but the basic idea has been kicking around in my head for some time.

There was a comic book years ago called Necessary Evil which was about a school that trained super villains. I’d like to take that idea, maybe mix it with a superhero school like the one in the movie Sky High. Both schools would be fully aware of each other, but something more powerful than any superhero or villain (a group of lawyers) will have drawn up something that allowed both schools to legally function.

It wouldn’t be a crack game, but it wouldn’t be a game that takes things too seriously, since the premise itself would be kind of silly. Students at the hero school would be sorted into something like superhero candidate or sidekick candidate. Likewise, kids at the villain school would be sorted into villain candidate or henchmen candidate. Faculty of both schools would obviously be made up of current or retired heroes and villains.

Character powers could range from the mundane to something actually spectacular with a cap in place. Characters wouldn’t have to necessarily be human either. They could be supernatural, an alien or some type of extradimensional being or what have you.

There could be mix-ups where someone that should go to the superhero school is sent to the villain school instead and vice-versa. They would be silly homework assignments like for a villain to rob someone or someplace and present their spoils to the class and explain how they went about doing it. Heroes likewise could be given assignments such as helping the elderly cross the street or helping to look for lost pets.

That sounds really cool and I really like the tone of Sky High. It's campy, but not completely cartoony.

Yeah, I'd like to strike a perfect kind of balance. Mostly because I feel if it got too campy, it would run the risk of turning into a complete crack game.

I think this would be a lot of fun - especially if you bring in the Save the Citizen training exercise (or something very similar).

You'd probably have to come up with some sort of system in place to address the kids who might be particularly ambitious young heroes or villains. Maybe have a couple of teachers who are more approving of kids taking things into their own hands, some who are iffy but accept it under specific circumstances, and others who flat out don't think kids should be allowed to until they've graduated.

Love the idea of the mix-ups, too.

The Save the Citizen training exercise or a variant would be a must. I'd like to come up with a bunch of other fun exercises that the students might get run through as well.

I'd also like to have teachers like that. There would be like an unspoken rule that students shouldn't engage in heroics or villain without teacher supervision, but there wouldn't be a rule in place that banned it to allow for teachers to have those sort of reactions to it when it does occur.

The mix-ups would be my favorite part. It could allow for some fun moments.

Yes yes yes yes yes!! I love the superhero school idea and you get bonus points for using something other than X-Men as your base.

Ty. I love X-Men, I really do. I have been in a few games based on it, but this superhero school idea is the kind of thing I have always wanted to see in RP.

Huh. A Game where The Tick can actually be a viable character.

I would love to see a game along these lines so much. I've really been jonesing for a well-run school AU along these lines since the last attempt at an X-Men game flared out. This sounds like it'd have more potential / less hurdles to succeeding than another retread of that, too.

Really hope this becomes more than an idea!
