music & poetry & keywords

hey, anons who keyword their icons with lyrics or poetry! i want to hear about the songs/poems you picked and why you chose it (do you connect it specifically to that character? do you just like it?)

i also kind of want to hear about what songs/poetry reverberates with your views on whatever characters you have mental playlists for, even if you don't keyword their icons to it or even play them on dw

i often use song lyrics, but only do it if i think they fit the character. i rarely bother to put them in order or use the entirety of a song, though. for one character i only used songs from a single band, just because. then i made an aged-up account for her and picked another band to only use songs from.

only for a couple of characters because i don't put that much effort into my keywords anymore. one is a war-time character for which i use poetry written by people within similar situations in that era, thanks to a friend who helped me locate them, and i credit them in the descriptions.

as for lyrics, i use a couple of different songs by different artists (since the journal has a premium) with lyrics and a style of music that remind me of the character. usually if i have more than a few of those and i play the character regularly, i'll make a playlist post for myself (and make one up on my ipod). lyrics come first when it comes to associating a song with a character, for me.

I occasionally use song lyrics if I'm stuck for keywords and have a song that really fits a character.

i use lyrics that have absolutely nothing to do with the character and are usually actually grossly inappropriate

but i have really long playlists for all my active characters that i take super seriously, so it evens out

I have one muse that has song titles as keywords. The character's personality didn't play that big of a part. The keywords reflect the emotion/expression that the icons have.

I don't listen to music much so for a few icons I searched Google and YouTube to find a song. A couple of times I had to ignore a title because I just didn't like the song at all. They didn't need to be something that I absolutely loved, but they couldn't be something I disliked.

Finding the best keywords took a lot of time but the whole process helped me to memorize the icons well. I've never had to check them to remember which keyword belongs to what icon.

when i played castiel i used the lyrics from turn into earth by the yardbirds bc it's the song that plays when he regains his memories

but i might also have used halo lyrics or idk locked out of heaven to be humorous, or something more obscure like hymn for the exiled if i was feeling hipster-y. it all has to do with the right feel, i guess?
