Unfunny wanky stereotypes

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

how do you just "start over" in rp? i just want a new handle, a fresh start, my name not associated to any game/player/whatever just to cleanse my rp palette and see what friends and such i can make. new name, new plurk, idk help?

depends on if you want to make a clean break, leave behind all your old friends, or not. if you want a clean break: shut down your plurk. leave whatever game/s you're in. shut down your musebox. create a new handle, a new plurk, app a different character to a different game. do different things. talk to completely different people.

the more gradual way: change your handle. start going by that new handle. after a couple of months, create a new plurk. do tell your friends you're moving plurks, but keep the friends list small. stay out of games for a little while (museboxes/memes are fine), then app into one if you want. don't hide or keep it a big secret that you're formally xyz if it comes up; don't mention it if it does not. limit your ooc contact with people; don't go adding everyone in your game on plurk.

why is this hard?? drop everything. tell people you're taking a break from the internet and you dont know how long. make new journals etc from different fandoms (unless its a really big one) and go to town

Seconding the first anon, with the added caveat that you don't delete your contacts/plurk/whatever when you leave. Don't drop everything abruptly or people will know something's up. When you do drop it, don't delete it. If you leave it around, people will just assume you got bored or distracted and abandoned it. Deleting it suggests you intended to leave and will make people suspicious.

I dropped all but two close friends, made new icons for characters I intended to play again (but didn't pick up for a few months), apped to a new game, met new people in it, got into new fandoms thanks to them, was able to be open about old fandoms that I couldn't be before because no one cared, and started co-modding a game (that swiftly died, but through no fault of mine).

It was liberating. None of that crusty old wank and "So-and-so will never change" chaining me down. It was like a weight lifted from my shoulders. People who hated the old me are great friends with the new me.

The important thing is to let everything go. Don't hold any grudges towards anyone for past behavior. Alternately, you could head to another site, like Insanejournal or something for a truly fresh start, but that may be too far for some people.
