lmao bed bugs don't count as 'bugs' really, considering you can wash/sanitize everything and they die. they're an annoyance. if you had termites? yes, that is valid.

bedbugs are considered an epidemic. washing/sanitizing everything doesn't always work. not to mention they get in/infest everything that's wood/electric and can stay in a sort of hibernation stage for up to 6 months. if you have an infestation, you have to basically bag up everything you own (after washing it) for over 6 months and say goodbye to any actual furniture/carpeting, because they're a write off.

Bed bug infestations can be so extreme and difficult to deal with that they can cause symptoms of anxiety and even PTSD.

Let me tell you a story about bedbugs, anon. One year for my birthday, my father gave me a very nice dresser that he had picked up at a garage sale. I inspected it the way I always do with used furniture, and noticed evidence of bedbugs in the molding. I told him thanks but no thanks and explained why. He got offended and said he would never have gotten me something that was infested, and I must be mistaken. The next day when I was at work used his emergency key to come into my house and put the dresser in my bedroom.

I moved it out as soon as I could get a friend to help, but by then it was too late. Bedbugs infested the house. It took me a year and a half to get rid of them completely. I had to destroy most of my furniture and many of my possessions, including childhood mementos and valuable family heirlooms. They can get into anything. The total damage was probably close to twenty thousand dollars.

Don't fuck with bedbugs. If you see even possible evidence, get the fuck out.

Make them pay for heat treatments. It is entirely too soon for them to place the blame on you. In either case, pest control is a service they're supposed to provide.

If you haven't moved in yet, back out.

If you have, IA with the anon who said make the landlord pay for the treatments.
