Unfunny wanky stereotypes

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

any anons here have any experience/knowledge regarding bipolar disorder?

i have depression and gad and sometimes i worry about being bipolar too since it runs in my family. i previously asked about my derailing thoughts on rpanons last post and after an anon mentioned racing thoughts, i did some research and it's a symptom of bd.

i've been on a few mood stabilizers along with anti-depressants and they seem to help a lot, and that worries me. "if bipolar meds work on me, am i bipolar?" you know what i mean?

since i've been on psych meds i've been much more motivated. some people tell me i've been a little impulsive. they think i'm weird walking 30 minutes to the store instead of taking the bus. i made a huge purchase recently although i don't regret it. maybe those aren't even related. maybe, if i'm actually bipolar, i haven't had a manic episode yet.

am i being anxious over nothing? should i bring this up with my shrink and if so how should i?

Don't listen to anyone here if they try to diagnose you. Mental conditions aren't uniform. Yes, if you think you may have it, bring it up with your shrink and give them more reason than "I looked symptoms up and some matched the ones I perceive." Go through a day-to-day and let them know what your thoughts and moods are like. Let them know it runs in your family.

YES you should bring this up with your shrink. They know your case way better than strangers on the internet and are also way better equipped to help you sort through it. As for how to bring it up, honestly: c/p this comment into word, print it out, hand it to your therapist at your next appointment, just say something like 'hey I've been worrying about this can we talk about it?'

You've already basically done the work of getting your fears into words, why struggle with doing it twice?

Yes and you should talk to your shrink. My friend thought she couldn't be bipolar for years because she was never typically manic, but we recently learned that she's simply atypical and that her mania manifested as anger.

You could be and you could not be, but you should talk to a psychiatrist about exactly WHY you're concerned and figure it out with them, because the internet cannot teach you everything you need to diagnose this and none of us can diagnose you through the internet.

Just go to your doctor and tell them that you have a family history and the reasons that you suspect you may have it yourself.

i would bring it up too if i were you.

in june i was diagnosed with bipolar II but i had a few major episodes in the past. i was on a few meds before that. that was just me tho and i really don't think that all brains act alike, ahaha. i wish i could say more but i don't know jack shit about most things of mental health and things.

it's good to hear that the meds are making you feel better, though!!
