Unfunny wanky stereotypes

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

favorite casts and/or players, anons?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-22 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
showing my game here but

brainiest - hermione that feels like a three-dimensional person while keeping the defining backbone/nerdery

wasthemaster - draco with a ton of development to him, but still asshole malfoy, player does a great job of integrating his personality in even small ways

vulnera_sanentur - best snape srsly, actually makes me like the character while keeping him characteristically douchey

flightofdeath - had to drop games do to rl issues, but very thought-through young voldemort, player is very smart and can pull off the evil genius stuff

asgard has a lot of great writers and players on cast those are just my personal favs

Just went to peruse asgard's hp cast tags, well worth it, lots of fun and some very good writers. Thanks for the recs, anon.

minor characters

this series has a metric fuckload so

1. what do you think of people playing minor characters?
2. how much canon does a character have to have for you to consider playing with them?
3. what's the most negligibly mentioned character you've seen someone play?

I never really gave a fuck about "canon OCs". If a character is consistent and compelling, I don't really care how much screentime they had. And I DO think we know enough about the Marauders, for example, to make logical extrapolations. Obviously interpretations differ, and canonmates need to be on the same page, but that's true for canon in general.

I saw someone play Andromeda once! I think that could be pretty fun, honestly.

andromeda would be a bunch of fun in the right hands!

(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
totally! i think a lot of people forget that sirius wasn't the first to defy his family. (not that it makes him any less brave for doing so, but i think andromeda was probably a big inspiration.) and she's one of the maybe two good slytherins we got in the final product.

i want to know how she met ted, and how they fell in love, and how they dealt with tonks' powers, and how they felt about her being an auror, and if she every reunited with narcissa, and...

I want to know where (and why) she came up with the name Nymphandora.

1. nothing bad, usually. i've played against a lot of great ones, and the series is pretty much perfect for it.

2. i don't really care. even if they're nothing more and a name in canon, you can still turn them into an awesome character to play against.

the only thing that is a definite turn off are people who insist on how "canon" everything they're doing is -- bitch, your character has two lines in canon (if that), and that nearly twenty years after the point you chose to play them at. don't act like what you're doing is playing anything but a canon oc based on a very, very large amount of your own interpretation. as implied before, there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing just that. it can be tons of fun to play or play against. just don't get all high and mighty about it.

3. unf, can't decide. tons of first war death eaters and order members. dorcas meadows (not sure about the spelling), rabastan lestrange, the carrows...

nothing more THAN a name

brain, please.

i pretty much agree, i was curious about how much of the sentiment against it comes from outside of the fandom/within it

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
really, i haven't seen much of a sentiment against the marauder era (or earlier) characters.

now, next!gen? i've hardly seen anything good said about those.
