Not all LPs do this. It's extremely common, but there are also LP's done by people who genuinely love a game and want to share it and provide context for others. This seems to be more common for older games, when people do it. Similarly, some people use subtitles and are pretty unintrusive!

I still haven't gotten through it, but the Alone in the Dark LP on the archive is so far a love letter to it as a piece of gaming history and the person who did it knew a LOT. As a kid who got into games in the late 90's it's very interesting for me to see how different computer games were just before my time.
