Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Help me.

I don't know what the fuck to do, are any anons in Texas that can contact the police? An internet friend there is talking as though she's going to hurt herself. She's alone and her family's out of the country, I'm really freaking out.

i'm in texas and i refuse to call the police on someone who is self-harming or threatening suicide. it has a 90% chance of more of making it infinitely worse.

please, just talk to them and be there for them. it's so much better than calling the police.

No, because if I called the police I'd be saying, "Hi, there's someone in Texas that's trying to hurt herself?"

People's mileage may vary, but...

IF THEY'RE JUST TALKING AND HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING LET: Stay with them, talk to them, reassure them. If you have their phone number and the two of you are comfortable with it potentially call them up.

IF THEY ACTUALLY HARMED THEMSELVES: Call the police department of whatever county they're in, if you know that information.

direct her to a hotline

from what i know of texas in general the police are likely to just shoot her

yeah, it's incredibly unfortunate, but unless you're absolutely certain that this person is going to make a serious suicide attempt RIGHT NOW, calling the cops usually makes things worse.

even if you voluntarily go to a hospital because you're feeling suicidal, you can be restrained against your will for several days without being able to contact your family. it's a terrifying and dehumanizing experience - patients have even been denied clothing and bedsheets because they might use it to strangle themselves. you can also be expelled from some universities for having suicidal thoughts. i've read some real horror stories... unless it's literally a life or death situation, the way public services often deal with suicidal people is completely fucked up.

As someone who's been in Texas institutes before, they are the worst thing.
