I'm the one that brought up that certain sites seemed to be slipping through with popups and ads last time, but is there something wrong with it? Did they stop doing things? Because I just got an ad on Youtube and I never get ads on Youtube.

Working fine on my end. Certainly no Youtube ads.

Probably something on your end.

If you're talking about AdBlockPlus, they may have had certain sites or domained whitelisted as default instead of leaving it up to the user, meaning that blocking them is impossible as a manual action.

Blip.tv did this almost a year ago with their annoying flash ads. At one point their code push enabled it so that anyone with adblock would get a 90 second delay before the blip video started. Another code push ended up putting Blip and its affiliates on a white list where it would bypass Adblock and play the adverts in all their obnoxious glory.

Until ABP fixed the code, the only thing the user could do was look through the whitelisting and unclick the domain as an exception.

Now, I'm just jumping into this convo so I've got no clue if that would help or not. But it just reminded me of adblock problems I had before, so.

Wouldn't be a coding thing in this case. At least not on Youtube given that i'm using ABP and i'm still ad-free.

To answer some of the suggestions, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it doesn't seem to be helping. This recently started about a month or so ago with the sites randomly letting popups happen (piratebay was the big one), but today was the first time I've had an ad play before a video on Youtube since I started using it.

If it's on my end, I have no idea what it could be since both my Chrome and FF are up to date.

FYI if you are seeing popups and ads that others are not that usually means you have either a virus or a nasty piece of malware.

I've run avast and malwarebytes and it hasn't picked up anything.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally disable it?

for a while I was having a problem where I'd keep accidentally clicking that corner of the screen and turning adblock off.

nope. i don't have the icon in my url bar and there's no way i can accidentally disable it just through ordinary site usage.

Are your lists to date?

Because it honestly has to be something in your end. I'm on an update to date Chrome with an up to date ABP and I'm ad free on YouTube. The only place it get them is on certain torrent sights and even then it's the 'click the button and have an ad' sort.

I updated the lists before trying PB again, then uninstalled and reinstalled. Then checked to make sure that I was on an up to date version of Chrome. I don't know if maybe it was a glitch for that one vid or something since I haven't gone through a bunch of them to see if it's changed, but usually I get the 'click the magnet link on PB and a pop up appears' kind of ad. And it's not every time, either, but it's only recently, so I was curious if it was a ABP thing or something else.

If you're getting a download from some sort of torrent site, they always have a pop up when you click the link. That just happens.

If you're getting ads on youtube then something is wrong.

before the recent issue, I'd get that thing where an ad starts to pop up in a new window/tab, but it would close out almost immediately. now, it's not closing out, so that's when I started wondering if something was up.
