hello anon :) good character choice A+ i'm always thrilled to see new will grahams floating around

okay so maybe part of this is up to interpretation, but i tend to find will is a genuinely nice/good person who just hasn't been given the right opportunities in life to learn how to socialize. it's culminated in him closed off from new friendships and unnecessary social interaction, only because it's usually more trouble than it's worth for will.

the awkwardness is constant. there's never really a time where will won't be fidgeting, or avoiding eye contact, or hesitating when he speaks, or missing a social cue (or avoiding one) or doing something that's just a little off when it comes to social customs. but the rudeness/sharpness tends only to happen when people press him, or try to get close to him, or attack him. and in each instance, his rudeness ranges from unnecessary bluntness (when Hannibal first visits him and he asks 'where's jack' instead of letting Hannibal in) to emotional outbursts (when Hannibal first presses him and psychoanalyzes him and he freaks out) to dry, caustic sarcasm (anytime brian zeller tries to poke fun at him) to outright rejection (when he shuts the door in brian's face mid-sentence). always try to include him being just a little bit off/distant/nervous in your narration, but only touch upon him being rude if there's a reason for him to jump to the defense.

also, i've seen this used quite a few times and i always disagree with it, so i'll give you an opinion: avoid making him stutter unless here's actually frightened/panicked/in a position where he should be stuttering. will's got problems but he's a full grown man who's managed to find himself in a teaching position at quantico, despite being too unstable to be a full-time agent. he sometimes pauses between words, or repeats them because he has difficulty conversing, but he doesn't stammer.

and lastly, as for making it clear he cares about people, stick to the internal dialogue with that. and really really get in there and make it clear, show it on his features, show it in what he does because will graham tends to be an open book, even when he doesn't mean to, but don't have him communicate it clearly. he's got a social disorder, and it's pretty unlikely it's going to come out verbally unless it's a very rare circumstance (ie when he kisses alana) and even then, it's awkward and rushed and he does it out of desperation more than pure feeling.

even if you don't manage to channel will graham i think it'll be worth it just to stare at hugh dancy for 45-50 minutes imo
