i still get sad over people who don't use canon art when it's available to them :(

your icons don't have to be 100% canon art because the fanart is gorgeous, but when you play america, england, or basically any of the main countries i kind of judge you if you have more fanart than canon art

I see this all the time and I don't get it. A Prussia player should not have so much fanart when Prussia is so expressive and so prominent in the canon art. There's no lack of material to use. You don't even have to color it if you don't want to.

I wouldn't say it has to be more than half, but I love seeing at least some canon art (especially more recent).

Not the anime though. Because I'm sorry but Deen art sucks. (Though the latest season is ok)

A lot of the more recent art is wonderful, but some of it is sketchy and not everyone is that skilled at cleaning it. Or has scans of the volumes to use instead. If I could get my hands on good scans I'd probably make a lot of manga icons myself just because I really like how his art has grown.

No one should use earlier anime art because it was shit from the beginning and definitely in comparison to Beautiful World. Not that all fans even like mixing anime and manga art o the same journal.

I like the latest canon art, but I'd prefer to have the manga art colored, and I don't like a lot of the colorings that icon-makers have done already. I've screencapped parts of the latest anime season, but cleaning those up can be a pain too if you don't have the DVDs and the video you're watching isn't high-quality.

If you see someone with a bunch of fanart icons, OP, I doubt it's because they have anything against the canon art. It's just that not everyone has the time, ability, or resources to make the kinds of icons they want out of the canon material. This canon has beautiful fanart too. Why not use it if t's recognizable as your character? There's no need to be judgmental over something like this.

Newest season, OK, but the rest of it was completely ugly and wasn't even worth my time tbh. That's why most of my icons are fanart. Once the newest season is released on DVD, though, I may start making canon art icons...

I like the recent canon art, but mostly the coloured stuff. I've tried to make icons from strips (for a secondary character) and oh god, it was a pain in the ass trying to clean those, since the strips were pixelly and messy as hell. In general I avoid it because it's just a bother.
