Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

especially with regards to 3. i really miss aim rp sometimes, because it was so much better and more convenient to schedule a day and time to sit down and just rp back and forth for a few hours. i don't know why it feels so taboo to ask someone in dwrp who isn't already a close friend to do this with me, but it does. i don't want to do something like ecats boomeranging, but i would take scheduled logs over the "tag at your leisure for weeks on end" system any day.

since we're already talking about mmos kind of a little bit, it's really no different from scheduling a raid or something like that. so why can't we do it? ljrp used to do this back in the old days that you bring up, too. i remember doing logs on aim first and then copypastaing them into the log community once they were finished. i did that as late as 2007 in discedo. why did it go away?

oh my god i loved doing logs on aim and posting them

it could still take months (lol timezones) but they're much easier to read jfc.

i used to rp on aim and in MUCKs/MUDs as well as IRC. finished logs got posted on comms. having that kind of dedicated time was fantastic, and people actually followed through on their commitments because everyone understood how important time was. i was like eight timezones away from everyone else and i still got so much shit done because we all valued each other's time too much to waste it farting around doing other shit (play videya/read comics/whatever) when we'd specifically agreed 'we're gonna be logging dis shit from [time] to [time]'.

not that chat rp was a bastion of how rp should be, but in a well-organized game (the one i was in had an application process etc) it was great, and until now i've kept the friends i had from eight years ago because the level of communication was that great. i'd be hard-pressed to think of people in dwrp i'd be attached to eight years from now.

i forgot where i was going with this. anyway, i'm a fan of rp not being an obligation, and i think people should be able to do what they want with their free time. i just find the dwrp model really clumsy.
