hasn't that basically been a lot of game releases lately though? i know the backlash is starting to hit like, bioshock infinite so

Like, it's an analogy that's insulting to both games, so they're saying FF8 doesn't deserve the association with BI, not the other way around (which would be more expected since BI actually has a legion of defenders). That might be giving anon too much credit though.

Shit, anon, how did you know? I saw like, two bloggers/reviewers out of a billion that noted the weird tendency to fall over backwards to gloss over any fault that could be found in the game (the DLC will explain it! At least it tried! That's as good as actually succeeding, right?) but it was hardly any sort of community disillusionment. Then again, the Final Fantasy 8 treatment is too...much to expect from pretty much anything.

Come to think of it, I'm really starting to think it's entirely about the passage of time. Wasn't Chrono Cross treated like an excellent example of video game storytelling when it came out?

maybe in reviews, but in fandom i don't think so. i think it was always shit on by people who played chrono trigger.
