Your privilege at any time is only as strong as the wifi signal

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

god whose bright idea was it to allow fanfic on tvtropes?

the site is already neckbeardy as all get out but i'd really like to be able to search for something without having to scroll through shitty fanfic

why should anyone give a fuck that garbage mlp and hp fics break the fourth wall or avert tropes? no one fucking cares, they're not canon

(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
makes about as much sense as having pages for various DWRPs, and they have those too

(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah that's dumb

abridged/parody series are really pushing it because any dumbass can make one and most aren't very good (no1fuckingcurr about pony.mov and the MANY parody series, bronies!)

but i don't give a single fuck about some nobody's pokemon fanfic. go make a fanfictropes for the losers who do care

"any dumbass can make one and most aren't very good"

by that logic they shouldn't have pages for webcomics either?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
as long as they're "original" and have an "acceptable" amount of pages they should be allowed imo

i don't care about shitty pokemon sprite comics or nuzlocke comics

or webcomic makers who think their baby is tvtropes-worthy after 10 pages of bishie buttsex or unoriginal gag-a-day strips

lol people make pages for their upcoming webcomics and fanfics that they haven't even started working on yet.

the only thing you can't have a page on is outright porn, pedobait, and gross shockfests, and even that was only because their advertisers won't let them. there's a whole subforum dedicated to discussing things like how many underage panty shots makes something banworthy, it's incredible.

actually that was more about "fuck, these are making us look bad" than google

so at least they're trying

having pages for various DWRP

...I'm sorry, what? Fucking seriously? Who the fuck is putting that shit up?

People who

1. Go on TvTropes
2. Play in DWRP games
and
3. Like messing around with/on tropes for fun

Same way most stuff gets up on TvTropes.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-31 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
you are too logical for us

In an awkward stereotype-enforcement way, it's usually for games that have a reputation for attracting weird people e.g. Ink City.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
There's at least a 50% chance it's the author writing their own article and trying to advertise it. Which is...yeah.

The one thing I really feel should be deleted and barred from having articles is the stuff that doesn't even exist yet. Like, it's literally some Idea Guy going on about all the stuff his awesome game/comic/story is going to have.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-31 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, THAT is the only real ridiculous thing. TV Tropes made it clear they're more than TV shows years ago. The tilde bracket snark the other anons were making about non-mainstream media articles should be left to the people hocking things of theirs they haven't published at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, good fanfics do exist. Do they need specific pages on TVTropes? Not really, but at worst, it's just a silly means of advertising.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
someone made a page for a fanfic i wrote years ago. i have no idea why they chose to because, yeah, it's a fucking fanfic and it wasn't even a big one or anything. but they did and then they went around adding it to a bunch of other pages so now it's all over the place.

and tvtropes gets very snooty about people asking for pages about their works to be taken down because omg ~no such thing as notability~ and ~you don't own how people react to your work~, so there's jack-all i can do about it.

so now it looks like i'm a self-obsessed weirdo who keeps pushing this fic in totally inappropriate places, because it's this stupid little thing and no one but the author would care so much, yeah? i've gotten messages from people telling me stop posting about it and the response is always "yeah right" when i say it's not me. (and on top of that whoever made the page got a lot of things wrong but that's just the icing on the cake of why would you do this.)

(Anonymous) 2013-12-31 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
After they added the Get Known thing, TVTropes used to have a function that listed all the tropers who have ever edited an article. I don't see it anymore, but it would have been useful in your case, so you could prove you had nothing to do with it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-31 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I think the fanfic recs pages are okay just like the wild mass guessing pages are okay because when I'm poking at tropes I'm usually nerding about a canon and in the mood for fics anyway.

But fanfics should never have their own page or be used as examples.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-31 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
the saddest thing in the world is people adding entries for their own fanfic

not even just making a page for it, but going into like Big Bad and adding "Fluttershy becomes this after Buffy steals her pancakes in Wow! Friendship Attack: Something Shitty That Probably Also Involves Doctor Who"

(Anonymous) 2013-12-31 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind them having their own pages (I've contributed to a couple of the RP ones, even) but I agree, they almost never really work as examples.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's how it's always been. no quality control or check.

tvtropes bad
