i assume he's a canon character whose origins you don't have much info on—b/c that's not giving much to go off of. was he born in the US? is he fluent in spanish? were his parents wealthy? first generation? does he live in LA? Texas? Ohio? it varies. and honestly, i'm sure you could gloss over things like that if they're not supplied in-canon.
and if he's an OC, hell you could keep it simple and make him a total coconut

as far as language goes, just know that mixing spanish and english words in a sentence is generally not how bilingual people talk (and i hate how often writes do that shit for their brown characters) unless they're speaking with someone who's also fluent in both languages. regardless of his fluency, he's probably not gonna say some spanish phrase while talking to someone who speaks english/wouldn't understand it. if you're gonna add in spanish, do it in interjections or maybe if he's talking to himself or something.
personally, i prefer writing something like "he curses in spanish," or "he mutters something in spanish about how he hates butterflies" to actually translating. because connotations are hard . but if you need it, wordreference.com is your friend, and stay away from google translate.

from the words of the creator himself, 9 is supposed to be the epitome of the series. if it lacked originality it's because they intentionally took themes from the first games and mixed them together in order to accomplish that.

ff fandom is about 75% "let me rip your favorite games (or lbh all of the games ever) to shreds because it sucks because reasons", 20% shipwars, and 5% chill awesome.

also hi i play(ed) from multiple ffs, and the only ff i've managed to beat personally is mystic quest. my secret shame tbh. inb4 mystic quest doesn't count. w/e w/e i know

final fantasy x/x-2 HD for ps3/vita is coming out in march in NA/EU, so i highly recommend starting with that one! you won't be visually offended since it's remastered, and a lot of people i know love it even if they aren't a huge FF fan or even a huge gamer.

it's explained why the radio signals don't work, tho - it's not that their tech is lacking, but adel is freaking out so bad over being in her coma or whatever that she's completely blocking them. if you look at the screens early on you can see her thoughts all over them

but honestly the space travel bullshit was so out of nowhere i couldn't help but love it

i am playing a slash ship for the first time in forever. it's making me really happy.

is any part of the series worth watching that isn't soul society? because i loved the soul society arc but i've heard is basically all went downhill
