that's kind of a faulty counter-argument, though. alcohol makes most people feel good with no permanent ill effects. it's not like an average boob job (even a bad one) destroys your life like alcoholism can. obviously people who have plastic surgery addictions are an unhealthy exception. satisfaction ratings for breast enlargements are actually quite high, even if the results aren't absolutely perfect. people do all kinds of things to meet arbitrary cultural standards of beauty, but that doesn't necessarily make them physically or mentally unhealthy.
i think it's more accurate to compare breast enlargement to other medically unnecessary cosmetic body modifications, like tattooing. not everybody likes tattoos. some people think they're ugly or tacky or an offense against the beauty of the human form. other people think a good tattoo can enhance the wearer's appearance. but ultimately, the only thing that matters is how the person with the tattoo feels about it. if it makes them feel confident or sexy or whatever, then it's a "successful" tattoo regardless of how you or i feel about it.
