Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: RWBY
(Anonymous) 2013-11-08 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)However, I'm going to agree with the above anons on the predictability, rush on the story arcs, and corny dialogue that plagues the series. Weiss' conflicts with the rest of the cast become too quickly solved and with not much felt resolution (in the case of Ruby and Blake), and Jaune and Cardin were the weaker characters of the season: Jaune for the reasons mentioned in the past threads (not to mention he would have perhaps been better received if he had been seen to make an effort even if he cheated), and Cardin for simply being the archetype of "a bully". I recall Doug Walker once mentioned he really hated this trope because most of the times they are simply cardboard cutouts in terms of personality for the hero to too simply overcome, and this made me see he's correct.
If the writers find a way to work with the short episodes they have, and they become focused on taking their viewers by surprise, they would have something better in their hands. As a storyteller, your job is to make your reader go through a rollercoaster of emotions and make him think "HOLY HELL THIS JUST HAPPENED". The alliance between the White Fang, Roman, and Cinder is a good hint of what will follow in the second volume, but its plot will be something they'll have to gradually develop. Rooster Teeth seems to have problems with pacing in serious arcs, either they make arcs go too fast (RWBY's arcs after episode 8), or too slow (Red vs. Blue Season 9 on the entire mission for the briefcase and the Sarcophagus).
All in all, I really like this series, I'm going to buy both the DVD and the soundtrack, but I hope they learn from these mistakes and becomes better. It seems most of their errors are in writing, partly by episode length constraints and relying too much on cliches. If they get to treat those errors, and show more of the lore which has also fascinated fans (both about characters and the world), it will get to use the huge potential this series has.
