opposite wealthy!anon above, i grew up pretty poor, with a single mom stuck on welfare (that my mom wasted on things SHE wanted) and food stamps.

my goal is to become wealthy even if i end up doing something that makes me miserable. i want to be able to give my kids the freedom from having to worry constantly that all we have is powdered milk, past-due rent, and donated clothing too many sizes too big.

it's a secret because the one time i told someone, i got called a greedy asshole with no morals.

i grew up in a relatively middle-class family where we were comfortable in most respects. when i was older and learned about our true financial status and the absolutely awful debt we were in, i developed major financial anxiety and resolved to do whatever makes me money (that isn't engineering, because i am way too dumb to even touch that with a ten-foot-pole). i've come to accept it, and most jobs are tolerable if you have other things in your life to balance it out.

i don't hesitate to admit that i had it pretty easy growing up, but i still know your sentiments to a certain extent, anon.

you are definitely not a greedy asshole. unfortunately, this is the society we live in, and we can't all do what we want for a living. there's nothing wrong with wanting financial security.

I'm going to be reasonable poor my whole life because I am ~perusing my dreams~ and I still think that whole line is BS. You should do what makes you HAPPY and if being secure in an accounting job and having money to go to the Bahamas in the summer and spoil your kids rather than be a starving artist makes you happy...then fucking go for it, and more power to you! That's not being a greedy asshole, that pursuing the american dream and being grounded in reality.
