decent writer, not a great grasp of the character

only familiar with Fate/ canon and not the original myths but it always seems to me especially that his attachment to children comes out of nowhere and overpowers anything else about the character

According to the original myth, Diarmuid had five children. So he's a father in the myths.

Valid, but one's own children is different from "lol adopting every stray kid in the Tower" though, which is how it comes off

it shouldn't overpower their canon characterization, and there's no reason you shouldn't judge their characterization based on how they're presented in fate/ canon if they're a fate/ character, which is what the comment I replied to implied
