I guess I need to play more of Awakening, because I'm in chapter 2 (or 3? not sure) and I don't recognize any of the names I see people RPing (except Robin), this game must have a lot of characters ???

it's going to be hard to explain without spoilers but yeah, a whole slew of characters are introduced later in the game and they're the ones people primarily play. you'll get there, don't worry.

Fire Emblem games tend to have a shit ton of characters, yeah. Awakening's got 40something playable characters, not including characters who join after you beat the game. The general idea being that there's permadeath, so limiting you to 8 characters might get difficult after a while.

mind you anon, awakening's 40 or so is on the low end of the spectrum as far as Fire Emblem goes

heroes of light and darkness has over 100 characters if i counted right

i must have missed this in a tutorial, but... what does the grey floating icon with a "C" inside of it over character's heads mean in battle? I can't figure out what to do about it.

The letters above the units' heads indicate their relationship level with the unit you currently have selected. The higher it is, the higher the stat boost they'll give if you choose to have both units Pair Up together.
