This is so detailed! wow, Thank you so much anon! I'll keep this in mind when I play him.

I had another question. How should Snake react to being in a war environment? He seems like a difficult character to play and I want to do him justice. Is there anything I should avoid doing?

Interesting question, anon.

Well, if we're talking about the end of MGS2, Solid Snake's mission is now to retrieve Sunny from where the Patriots have hidden her. That is his one and only mission, it seems, since he doesn't get involved in the next mission until MGS4 which happens a few years later. It seems like if things hadn't gone as they did at the start of MGS4, he may very well not have returned to the battlefield. As far as the world was aware, Solid Snake had died prior to MGS2, and he was willing to let that be it, too. Raiden is trustworthy enough to not spill the beans, as it were, that he's still alive. So, Snake could go about living his life as he wanted.

Being in a war environment, it doesn't seem like he would be too "impressed" since the only reason he gets involved in the war in MGS4 is because that is related to the shitstorm that was caused by Big Boss and everyone. It was something that he had to settle since it was something that he was related to. Snake isn't going to say that there will be an end to wars, but at least, there would be an end to those battles. That's what he set out to stop and that's what he would do. If it is something that he has to fight in, he would probably question the reasons as to why, ask others the reasons for why they fight, and try to find somewhere outside of this environment that is his own.

So, really, there are two ways a person could play this. And these are only suggestions. The first one is that Snake would not get involved. If he feels he was brought there because of his skills, then he may very well boycott using them in protest to being kidnapped, and the idea that he is killing an enemy that he does not have any real beef with. Snake doesn't consider him a mercenary for hire, and if that's how he feels the people are treating him then he may very well not fight. Instead, he may try to look after those that are already in the battle and ensure that it is really what they want to do and not what they feel they have to do. Giving them the lessons so that they don't end up burnt out by the end, and have some sense of hope by it.

Or, the other way to go, he would feel that he has to get involved so that no other civilian has to get into this fight. If he doesn't fight then someone else may be brought that will. And what if that person is a teenager, like Raiden? He wouldn't want to bring someone into his world and have someone do it by force. So he may very well help out but he wouldn't be happy about it. He'd probably be an antagonistic soldier about it -- challenging the system and the rules that people are having. Talk to the people in charge about what it is that they really think that they are doing, and if they think that it is the right way to handle things. Snake has been one to question such workings and about what the endgame is for everyone, really. In the end, depending on the individuals, he may end up understanding and becoming more willing, or more bitter because of it. I don't know. It depends.

But that's really how I see it with Snake.
