my friend on tumblr just reblogged a long text post rant about REAL REVERSE RACISM and i clicked the url of the op and their description just says "Nationalist and Fascist"

idk should the fact my friend agrees with the arguments made by fascists, even if they wouldn't identify as a fascist, make me find them a lot skeevier?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
on top of believing in reverse racism? no

ditch them. they suck

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
you ever been white in japan before? them fuckers are racist as shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)

You're obviously derailing things, but I would like to drop that being black in Japan wouldn't be any better.

being black in japan is a thousand times worse than being white in japan

the japanese are racist as fuck against everyone not japanese, but they still think white people are better than black people

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
xenophobia =/= racism

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
The point is that it's not "reverse racism". The definition of racism covers all races, not just non-whites. Only an idiot would believe that whites are the only people capable of being racist.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
some of the biggest racists today are non-whites, and it's usually towards other non-whites. the finger's just pointed at white people more because of the huge big giant fucking racist rubber stamp mark they left in history.

i should probably clarify that i'm 99% sure she didn't check the source of the blog and she's said she hates nationalists before, even if she is white and dumb

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
If the text post wasn't about fascism/nationalism (I have no clue on the context), then it's kind of a fallacy to view a point based on who was making it (even a broken clock can be right and all that.) Which just leaves you with the reverse racism part.

most of it was pretty much the standard REVERSE RACISM stuff but there was a part that had something like "and this was their HOMELAND" in response to some white people in the UK being bullied

not technically incorrect but it raised warning bells which is why i checked

point it out and see what happens

decide if you want to be friends with her still after you see what she says

the majority of people can really only understand something that they've experienced themselves, so i can see how feelings of "reverse racism" can easily arise from a sheltered upbringing. the argument isn't unique to fascists. i've met very educated, very liberal, very nice white people who are absolutely convinced that they're the victims of "reverse racism" because a black person was mean to them once. they just have no concept of what racism actually is. frequently, they conflate the idea of racism with the idea of prejudice. sure, prejudice against white people happens, but that is a very different thing from the culturally institutionalized, brutal system of racism.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
does the word racism automatically mean institutionalized racism?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
yes. the "ism" part (of any "ist" or "ism" word) implies that.

no. there are quite a few definitions of racism depending on how you're approaching the issue. but i like definitions that draw some sort of line between prejudice and actual acts of racial discrimination. watering down the colloquial definition of racism to include prejudice just makes the "reverse racism" argument sound more convincing. everybody feels prejudice at some time or another, and everybody is guilty of prejudice at some time or another. but racist acts, whether part of a cultural institution or not, are systematic and quantifiable. feeling like you're the victim of prejudice or stereotyping does not necessarily mean that you're a victim of racism.

you can't be racist towards whites!! never mind the mistreatment of the irish and other assorted white europeans... they don't count.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
but that's white people hating on other white... people...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
racism is against other cultures and religions, is it not? not all white people are from the same cookie cutter, just like not all black people practice haitian vodou.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
i say this in reference to 'back in the day' when there was open racism against white (not just Irish) because of religion/culture/class.

lmao, I know right?

I remember seeing someone complaining about this woman who made a derogatory comment about the Irish, and someone came in all WOW AS A QUARTER IRISH I TAKE OFFENSE TO THIS TBH!!!

As an actual irish person born, raised and still living in the country itself, I just thought to myself "are you for real".

Americans just get off on being offended on behalf of everyone apparently.
