Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I'm afraid to count how many icons I've done by now, for myself and as commissions, and I've really honed the method that works best for me. Of course it'll be different for everyone, BUT FOR ME:

- I sketch at 500x500, just a general bust shot, with no mind for how it'll be cropped. I sketch each head on a different layer until all my intended icons are sketched out.
- I resize the entire thing to 1200 (or 800 is the new size I've been going to — the specific size doesn't really matter)
- Ink, color, etc.
- Add a background color beneath all of them, whichever works well with the skintone/hair. Sometimes include a few round gradients of a slightly lighter/darker color.
- Resize all of them to 400/500 and save all of the layers as my "big" pngs.
- Open all of those saved pngs, ctrl-A, ctrl-V into a 100x100 canvas, ctrl-T and hold shift to shrink it into whatever crop looks best.
- ctrl-J to make a new layer, sharpen that, and then change the opacity until it looks shaper but not terrible.
- Save for web for the icon size!
